ITG is being hilarious to me.

Postby Myon Beyond [a] on Fri May 04, 2012 1:02 am

We have OpenITG on a machine, and now we have this wonderful issue where the ` key will randomly go off and run the game in slow-motion. Is there a way of disabling this and fast-forward (Tab)?

Wait, how is there even a keyboard plugged in? Unplug it?

There isn't one. The game will just kinda do this, and I end up having to plug a keyboard in to fix it. I want to be able to disable use of both the ` and Tab functions of the game itself to prevent this issue.

Have you tried assigning those functions to different keys to see if it still happens then?

Unless I'm mistaken, the theme speed keys are built into the code and can't be remapped without modifying the source.

EDIT: vyhd confirms this.

1058:27 <vyhd|away> they're hardcoded into the binary; it'd be easy enough to rip them out if you can build for AC

Ugh, that's not promising. Really don't want to have to somehow modify and recompile source code. Any ideas?

Maybe mess with the Test Input screen and see if you can reproduce the phantom key presses by doing something in particular? Asking #openitg on irc.badnik.net wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Test Input isn't bad. I also had a weird issue where hitting the two green buttons was the equivalent of hitting Escape, so it'll be interesting seeing if I can reproduce it.

Woah you're living in my fantasy world

Anyway you could MAYBE assign them in keymaps (idk what they're called though). The other problem with that is I've never seen anyone be able to get keymaps to actually update in oitg.

The only ones in keymaps.ini you could change were menu arrows and selecting stuff and the lot. These are in the code themselves and can't be changed as easily.

As to the problem itself I'm baffled since I've never heard this problem before. :?

Have you tried a clean re-install of OpenITG? Preferably from a difference source or of a different version entirely?
I doubt you got it anywhere else than from Here but if you did then it might have been tampered with for lulz or something, who knows.

Outside of that, enter your command line outside of the game and press every button and step on every panel on the machine so that you can see the results of your presses (for example, one of my panels triggers the letter 'Q' when I step on it), it might be that a particular input is registered to that key regardless of keymaps (so it would have a sort of double function, if you get me), highly unlikely but worth checking out.

I think I've got that problem taken care of (the slowdown, that is). What I need now is a way to do pad inputs for credits. Or something to that effect, because I know it can be done.

There are a few ways to do it, but if you don't own the machine I would definitely not recommend having a pad code that actually inserts a credit, since the game keeps track of how many times that's been done through bookkeeping and if the number of credits inserted doesn't match the number of physical dollars in the machine then it's really obvious that someone's been messing with it. Is it owned by an arcade or a friend or what?

It's a local arcade, but we donated the ITG setup, and so we get free play on the machine. It'll be really nice being able to do that without having to ask them to open up the thing so we can put it on Event Mode. We have permission to do this.

Gotcha. Ok, go into the metrics of whatever theme you use (if you're running openitg then it should be in the patch, which you'll have to decrypt. I'll grab the encrypt/decrypt tools off of my machine if you need them). Insert some stuff under [ScreenTitleMenu], like this for example:

Code: Select all
CodeNames=SwitchTheme,Free,NotFree,Opmenu
CodeSwitchTheme=MenuLeft,MenuRight,MenuLeft,MenuRight
CodeSwitchThemeAction=screen,ScreenSelectTheme
CodeFree=MenuRight,MenuLeft,MenuRight,MenuLeft
CodeFreeAction=lua,function() PREFSMAN:SetPreference("CoinMode",COIN_MODE_FREE) end
CodeNotFree=MenuRight,MenuLeft,MenuLeft,MenuRight
CodeFreeAction=lua,function() PREFSMAN:SetPreference("CoinMode",COIN_MODE_PAY) end
CodeOpmenu=Left,Down,Up,Right,Down,Up,Left,Down,Up,Right,Down,Up,Left,Down,Up,Right
CodeOpmenuAction=screen,ScreenArcadeOptions

The Free/NotFree codes are one way to do it, and the Opmenu code is another. It's up to you how you want to do it, just delete whatever way you don't pick. Another way is to create your own menu that has a theme switcher, free play selector, jwa selector, and whatever else you find useful. You can jump to that instead of the opmenu by just replacing "screen,Opmenu" with "Screen,MyScreen" and then making something like this somewhere in the metrics

[MyScreen]
Fallback=ScreenOptionsMaster
LineNames=1,2,3
Line1=conf,Theme
Line2=conf,CoinModeNoHome
Line3=list,Test Input

I have no idea whether that will actually work, I might have gotten some syntax wrong, but that's the general idea. And by that I mean the [MyScreen] section. Everything else was ripped straight from the machine and I know it works.
