Re: Mute's Pro Syncing Guide ~ UPDATED 11/02/11

Hey. I am fairly new to all of this. I used to play dancing games a lot and recently decided to get back into it. I have a few very old files that I made a long time ago, and I am trying to ensure that these files are going to be sync when I go to the arcade, along with old Bemaniruler and tournamix stuff that I have on my PC.

But I have OpenITG. How does that apply to this guide? Do I still need to change my global offset in all of the theme folders, or is there another way of doing this? Or do I not need to change anything in terms of the OpenITG global offset to have my files sync with an r21 or r23 machine?

Thanks in advance.

OpenITG follows the same process, go to the data folder, open stepmania.ini, and change the GlobalOffsetSeconds line to -.012, nothing needs to be done to the theme folders, and then you can do the waveform syncing as the guide shows.

There is no stepmania.ini file in OpenITG>Data. I tried searching around for a while before I posted here but could not find any information.

Might be better to put it in Static.ini actually; just add the line GlobalOffsetSeconds=-0.012 in there and it should work.

Great. I will definitely do that.

Before I came across this guide, a friend of mine told me to change my Global Offset to -0.016 in Stepmania. The number is not extremely important because I will just follow what this guide says to do. However being that I did not have a stepmania.ini file, I assumed that I was supposed to do this in the themes folder, so every theme configuration file that i came across that had global offset in it, I changed it to -0.016.

My follow-up question is; just for confirmation, should I go back and change all of the global offsets that I originally changed in my themes folders back to 0 after I add the -0.016 global offset in the static.ini file? Or will it even matter after I add the global offset in the static.ini file?

Static.ini overides any other instance of GO so no it won't matter.

Sorry to bump this like a n00b but I just to get this answered:

Say I have a value of -0.020 for the offset, to the third step it should be -0.017, correct? Or am I adding backwards?

No.

-0.020 - 0.003 = -0.023

Come on, man. Simple arithmetic.

OK I have changed the offset to -0.012, but both my ITG/ITG2 files (from Zenius-I-vanisher) AND files from Mute Sims are offsync. What gives?

Changing the sync will probably throw your in-game timing off, but it adjusts the editor's numbers properly so that when it's perfectly on-sync according to the numbers, it'll be perfectly on-sync on an actual arcade cabinet. That's what I'm getting from the tutorial.

(Ironically, said sync is perfect on my laptop, insofar as I can even tell.)

Ah OK, I'll have to try the files on Edit Mode and see if they're onsync. Thanks.

I think he was saying that arcade sync just happens to be perfect on his computer.
