I'll have to try it out on pad before making any assumptions about the rating, can't really say for now.

Also, as far as the 6-hit in Disconnected Disco is concerned: You can always quickly move your hands to the ups since the holds end exactly when the taps hit. Bend Your Mind's 6-hit has the holds going for an 8th note longer after the taps, so I'm surprised you're not bringing that up instead, heh.

You can: knee + knee, 2x feet, 2x hands, etc.

~40% of the time I do it with my knees, the muscles in my hips suddenly hurt in a bad way.
The 6 holds in BYM have a longer set up time, and you put one leg down at a time. The other reason I didn't say to throw out BYM is that the rest of the chart is fine, throwing charts out over 1 step would lead to 80% of ITG 1/2 being thrown out.

Except 80% of ITG1/2 has more than 1 step's worth of reasons to be thrown out.

Hence the fact that 80% or so of ITG1/2 is probably being thrown out.

I actually enjoy more doubles charts on DDR than ITG1/ITG2 doubles charts.

Yeah, I said it.

DDR always had an enjoyable touch on their files, I thought that was a common sense.
I'd better save my words about some of ITG original charts.

Determinator: This chart has 'awkward' written all over it, with the way the bursts are broken up, to the hand section in the middle. No.

I'm a bit confused about this. You're praising Cryosleep for being uniquely awkward throughout until the end (complete with slowdowns that come with no indication), then you're voting against Determinator for being awkward?
Cryosleep also has steps in the slowdowns that go to nothing, which you dinged Don't Promise Me ~Happiness Mix~ for.

Basically, I'm saying Cryosleep is crap because it's a whack-a-mole style chart. The first half would not be noticably changed by putting it on Shuffle.

I for one agree with Nick's evaluation on these two charts. Determinator is awkward both positionally and rhythmically. There's a long section of nonsense quads and hands, and the 24th bursts from the singles chart are present, but broken up into chunks that make no sense whatsoever. Also:

Kyzentun wrote:(complete with slowdowns that come with no indication)

Seriously? Just learn the song, the slowdown goes perfectly with the music and is easy to remember if you know how the song goes. We went for a decade without slowdowns ever being cued by mines or whatever. I don't understand why uncued tempo changes are such a crime against humanity nowadays.

Kyzentun wrote:Cryosleep also has steps in the slowdowns that go to nothing

Off the top of my head, I believe the steps are following the percussion.

Kyzentun wrote:Basically, I'm saying Cryosleep is crap because it's a whack-a-mole style chart. The first half would not be noticably changed by putting it on Shuffle.

Not really. Cryosleep's cross-pad jump gimmick is pretty consistent in its structure, and honestly is not that hard when you just keep in mind that you're going to have to make these quick movements.

The exact same argument that you use to defend the whack-a-mole section of Cryosleep should apply to the hand section of Determinator. It has a simple, spaced out structure, and it's not hard when you just learn that you need to go down at m17 and not get up until the 8th stream starts.

Is the way that Determinator starts a lot of 16th bursts in the first half with a hold that puts you in a crossed over position considered awkward? If it is considered irritatingly awkward, then why does Cryosleep get a free pass?

OH SHIT WHOS THIS GUY

sup my names rich for everyone that only posts here, and I live/play in pittsburgh. I play a lot of doubles.

So I agree that both determinator and cryosleep are awkward. But determinator is awkward in at least two ways that cryosleep isn't: hands (and not easily fakable hands - like 40-50% of them have up+down arrows), and broken fast patterns. It's like whoever wrote the chart was like "well 24ths are hard, but if we take out ONE of them, right before the last one, it'll be much easier." So I'd cut it based on that alone. And I didn't even know it had awkward crossovers in 16ths, but that certainly doesn't help its case.

Cryosleep I'm on the fence about. On one hand it's REALLY sparse in the beginning, making the chart incredibly unbalanced. I've blued it to 40% several times without even tripling it. On the other hand, the patterns in the beginning are awkward, sure, but unlike determinator I think they're awkward in a way that merits consideration and deserves to be tested. And the ending has some good 16th patterns that are decently hard but not overwhelmingly so. I would probably include it, but barely.

Alright, with both UFOS and the TLOES Chapter 1 Expansion having been released since the last active bit of discussion on this topic, I figured this is a good time to bring this back into light with two new major doubles releases being out there. I'll go over what I think are viable selections from these packs shortly, but I'm a bit biased having worked on both of them, so I'd appreciate if other people could weigh in as well. :)

Bump time. Although this thread has been inactive, a number of us (TEEX, WinDEU, ZELLLOOO, Sudzi, Telperion, Janus5k, and myself) have been continuing to discuss this in the meantime. Since this pack is going to be used for the University of Illinois tournament coming up in October, we want to have this pack finalized by the time Fall term starts up again in late August.

Crosspost from DDRIllini:

Going to be consolidating and finalizing the list of potential songs for us to use today, including replacing any officials with the resyncs (the current version in the pack seem to be R1 files, as evidenced by the broken Baby Don't You Want Me DM chart and the error in VerTex^2 DX) and adding the additional yes's from Sudziosis 3, TLOES, UFOS, Gensokyo Daydream, and individual files into one comprehensive archive. Will most likely set the thing to upload overnight.

IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE SONGS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST, DO SO NOW.

While we're not going to close off the door to more additions entirely, I would vastly prefer not to add any more songs once the updated pack is uploaded. We need to get to definitively removing songs instead of adding more to an already too large tournament pack, and I'd like to give those who haven't been as directly involved in discussion a definitive list of songs that we are considering to give them an idea of what to expect, and so that they can perhaps help offer suggestions on what to remove.

As it stands, this is the current list of songs that have been recommended with a "yes" vote (any songs with a "maybe" are not included):
