Stepmania 5 issue

Postby Insane Steve on Sun Aug 07, 2011 2:26 pm

I just downloaded Stepmania 5, and am working on a chart. There is, however, no .sm file in the folder with the song in it, and yet the chart I am making is saving somewhere.

Where do I find the actual .sm file in this build?

Hm, in the version I have it makes both a .sm and a .ssc. But then, I got my copy from the source code, and the files I've been working on already had a .sm.
It looks like the formats are mostly the same, so you should try renaming the .ssc to .sm when you take it to the arcade.
At the most, you might have to remove the timing data from the chart sections and remove a few of the tags at the top of the file, like #WARPS, #TIMESIGNATURES, and such. I don't think it's necessary to remove those though.

Windows: %APPDATA%/StepMania 5/Save/LocalProfiles/<number>/Edits/<your edit files>

Thanks, but there's no .sm/.scc files in this folder at all :(

As long as it saves, I think I'm just going to make the chart wherever the .sm file is and transcribe it into a .sm file from my old backup of stepmania.

I don't know how to place mines/rolls in the chart, though, which kinda sucks, but I can figure that out myself sometime.

Hmm, that's where edit's should be...
Question, what your OS, and where did you install?

Also mines and rolls did change keys (I believe either the m or n key).

Ah, ok. I figured out rolls, not mines yet. Thanks.

As for the folder, I use Windows 7 and it is installed under C://Program Files (x86).

You need to run as Administrator then.
There's actually a question on the FAQ about this that says not to install there.

whoops, thanks.

I took a screen recording of the chart and will re-inscribe it once I get my old stepmans back on this computer, not knowing where my stepmans are bothers me even if I can put fake notes in.

Yeah, that works. You might need to do a Custom search on windows explorer to find it... :D

Use 'm' and 'n' to cycle between taps, mines, fakes, and lifts.

As for your actual problem, it's more than likely the fact that you installed to Program Files. I think it tries to avert the issue by saving simfiles somewhere else, but I'm not sure where and it's really better just to re-install to C:\StepMania.
