Usb help

Postby EZA on Sun Feb 26, 2012 9:56 pm

I hope I'm in the right forum, but I need help on how to prepare my USB drive to be played on ITG2, I have all the simfiles I want, but for some reason its not working. All I have done is put the folders on the USB drive and that's it, nothing else.

You'll have to be more specific. What exactly isn't working? Does it recognize your card? What does it say in the corner of the screen (READY, NoName, etc.)?

You should be able to plug any compatible flash drive in, play one game, and have it generate the directories for you at the end. Then you can put simfiles in /In The Groove 2/Songs/.

Did it come with any program already installed on it? That may be the problem.

When you put the flashdrive in, to little drive icons appear on the bottom of the screen? Do the drives at least save your scores?

Also, how new is the drive and who makes it? Older is typically better.

What no it was recognizing it (if it wasn't you wouldn't see that icon near the bottom left/right); problem was it wasn't displaying songs because you probably didn't patch them.

1. Where did he say he saw the drive icon? I read his posts twice and still see no mention of that.
2. Songs will display just fine even if they're not patched; he just won't be able to play them. (This is assuming it recognizes his drive, of course.)

Oops yeah forget what I said in that post. I'm pretty sure now it wasn't being recognized by the ITG machine (I forgot it says READY when you have it correct; not NoName).

That should be your folder structure. You stick individual songs in your songs folder, which is loaded as a group.

You can patch the songs using a program called ogg length patcher which manipulates the metadata of the songs you load on to falsely say they're 145 seconds long, allowing you to play longer songs (provided your cabinet is r21, cracked r23 or open ITG and setup right)

I've attached it.

Also if your drive draws too much current the game won't use it. It only supports usb 1.1 or 1.0, and while it will work with many 2.0 drives some simply draw too much power to be used.

edit (oh and as for how to use it, drag and drop .ogg files onto that patcher and let it run and it'll patch the metadata)

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here, but if the icon you're getting is the USB with an X through it, there *can* be a chance some software on the card is preventing it from mounting (U3 on sandisks used to be really bad for this). If you're getting no response from the machine, there could also be a chance that the reader itself is faulty (pretty much the case with the machine nearest to me). If you could post more specific symptoms or whatever that might give readers a better clue of what the problem is

ALTERNATIVELY, the flashdrive size may be too big. I've noticed on my machine, it will only work with 2GB or 4GB flashdrives vs. anything else. If that's the case you may want to attempt a smaller or larger flashdrive. If not, this ↓.

This. Many newer flash drives simply don't work because the machine times out before it can scan the entire drive. For this reason, you will likely have greater success with older/smaller drives. Use a 512 MB drive or smaller if possible. (Personally, I use a 128 MB drive.)

Secondly, be sure to reformat/erase/wipe your drive before using it. As others have mentioned, some drives come with shitty pre-installed software that prevents ITG machines from reading the drive. Reformat the drive for FAT-32 filesystem using your Disk Utility (or whatever the Windoze equivalent of that is).

And as has also been mentioned, you don't simply toss your custom songs into the root directory of the flash drive. The machine searches a very specific filepath for custom songs, which is:

In The Groove 2 > Songs

If you simply play a round with your flash drive being properly read by the machine, the game will create the set of folders on the drive for you. Then the next time you plug your drive into your computer, you'll see the "Songs" subfolder in the "In The Groove 2" and THAT is where you will place your custom song folders.

would it be possible to partition a drive, either splitting the partition or reducing the partition down to a certain size to eliminate that?
