TYLR wrote:...And I have no idea why Joe said to skip 3 and play 4, because 3 is awesome.

Maybe because 4's fighting system and level design make 3 look like a complete joke? Aside from the boss levels in 3 I can safely say that the levels in 3 nearly put me to sleep half the time (don't even get me started on the higher blocks which are eventually longer sections of the same color scheme over and over and over). Don't get me wrong, p4 is plagued with this, too, but it handles it a lot better by making the blocks shorter as well as making them DRASTICALLY different from eachother (read: just not a bunch of recolors). I also said to either drop p3 OR to play p3p, since at least (to my knowledge) they fixed the sometimes (always) derpy mechanics in the original 3. I'd even bring up that I found 4's story to be miles more involving and "personal" for the player but that's more of a subjective point.

I'm pretty critical of 3 but in fairness for an RPG you could do a lot worse. I'm just coming from the standpoint of "if someone were to play one persona game, what should it be" and I feel that 4 is the best choice.

I certainly feel that the story is a little rushed at some points, but I wouldn't go so far to say that the characters have no personality. You obviously have a lot less time to develop characters in a show than in a game so I think they're doing a somewhat decent job at it. I actually find that Yu has the least amount of personality out of anyone in the show, though he does deliver some pretty funny deadpan lines in the last episode. Yeah, the Ai and Kou episode did kinda feel like filler unless their going to be developed further in later episode. The fights I think are pretty boring, but are necessary for character development (Just wanted to add that the Chie-Yukiko fight was reeking of symbolism and was so obvious that it was kinda redundant for me. I like my symbolism subtle). The animation was bad? I find the animation to be pretty decent compared to other show. I don't just like the music, but I also like how they use it kinda sporadically. I certainly think it's one of the more entertaining shows, compared to some of the shit they air these days. I'd say that this is a decent adaptation compared to other VG adaptation. Yeah I'm looking at you Tales of Symphonia. If I didn't play the game, I would probably be completely lost since they skip so much important stuff that explains a lot. Shoving who knows how many hours of story into 8 episodes is impossible.

Oh and can anyone tell me what's going on with her hand here?

This is my opinion as well. If it came across as something else, it's because I'm thankful that he DOES actually...speak, for one thing, even if only a little -- Some fans of the game were actually disappointed that their protagonist wasn't completely silent. His "blank slate" personality in the game worked because it was a game, and "his" personality is that of the player, but it obviously wouldn't work that way in an anime.

I finally got around to watching the rest of AnoHana (episodes 3 through 11). IMO, it's a show that started with great character designs, great voice casting, great music, an interesting concept, the best first episode of anything that comes to mind, and the potential to be really, really, really great. In the end, it was still better than most shows, but it definitely didn't fulfill its 10/10 potential. The fact that certain things took ~10 episodes that should realistically have taken 2 or 3 was a little silly, and the last couple of episodes had more than one moment where I had to just shake my head in embarrassment and say "this is dumb." Still, I'm a sucker for this kind of thing, and even ham-fisted idiocy like the endings of Angel Beats and this still make me tear up, so I can't hate on it like a lot of people do. Besides, the art and music were still excellent the whole way through, and the OP and ED were the best of the year IMO. I gave it an 8/10 on MAL, same as I gave Toradora!, a personal favorite with a similar look and feel.

I gave Ano Hana a 4. Toradora, a 9. The ending of Ano Hana was laughable. In fact, I did laugh. A lot. Something about the characters really bothered me. Everything felt really cliché and I never ended up accepting them as normal characters that would behave normal in real life.

Eh, I thought the characters were really good, actually. It just got kind of silly in the last couple episodes. Toradora's characters, though, seemed pretty ridiculous to me on the whole. Like, when a girl breaks into your house and tries to kill you with a sword, you don't feed her. You call the police. Sorry. Ryuuji was ridicuolous, and so was Taiga. Fortunately, Taiga was cute in a way, so I kept watching 'cause I wanted to see her and Ryuuji actually get together, 'cause that's the kind of guy I am. Ami, Minorin and that other guy whose name I don't remember were all silly too. One particular thing the other guy does near the end of the show made me facepalm, but I don't want to talk about it here because spoilers. But even though I have all these complaints about both shows, I still gave them high ratings because I still liked them despite their flaws because I'm biased >.>

I thought the best thing about Toradora was the characters. Ridiculous? I wouldn't go that far. Ryuuji cares about people and that's why he took care of her. The thing I loved the most about them was that they weren't one dimensional and had other sides to them, which is surprising from J.C. Staff which I think is one of the worst studios out there right now, content wise. I thought they were very believable. What made you facepalm? You can spoiler it.

I've decided that i don't want to wait for Funimation to get Steins;Gate out.
That and there isn't a current way to play the game with a English patch.
Found a site that is getting there though. That will be interesting if it ever gets done.

Oddly enough, you can buy the game on the iPhone US store in Japanese only.

I agree, though the last episode was kinda lame.

Is it just me, or was Mirai Nikki's latest episode complete ass?

[Reveal] Spoiler: OMG SPOILERS
Hot Hinata ass.

Take this for example.
Image
1. Why the hell did the cops let them in? Did they actually sneak in? If so, why isn't the crime scene guarded better?
2. How did the police not notice the 20 or so killer dogs in the park?
3. Why would they make chalk lines around body parts? Wouldn't they make the lines around a complete body? Wouldn't they use flags or some kind of marker instead?
4. Chalk lines... on sand? Really? How?

Also, Yuki was just full-on retarded in this episode.

I hope they don't go downhill from here.

So has anyone watched Hoshi Wo Ou Kodomo yet? It was just recently subbed. I wrote a review because I like reviewing things. It's kinda short though, since I didn't really go in-depth in the characters and story.

[Reveal] Spoiler: Review
Every year or so, there is usually an epic movie that comes out on the silver screen. A story of a kid sucked into a fantasy world of some kind, willingly or not, and embark on an adventure of a lifetime. These films have almost become a dime a dozen these days, so they really need to be excellent and memorable to become a classic. Sadly, I don't really feel like this one treads new ground.

In this tale, we follow Asuna, a regular, independent teenage girl. We also meet a substitute teacher (Morisaki) and follow them through an underground world to play God and revive the dead. Ambitious, you can call them, though it is an understatement. The concept of resurrection is certainly very interesting to explore, though this movie doesn't really do that, even if it is a main focus. It lead to a very anti-climactic ending. They made very quick work of the ending. They could have really explored more about resurrection and be more imaginative, but instead it felt lazy. Everything leading up to the end felt cliché and predictable, thus, a little boring.

The characters didn't really standout, either, though they aren't terrible. Asuna is a fun little character, always happy and optimistic, though also a little bland. Morisaki was also a little boring, always serious and never letting loose. They could have played around with him a little but we got nothing. The same can be said about most of these characters. They're pretty one-dimensional and not very believable.

Of course, I have to praise the art. "Scenery porn" as many like to call it. The landscapes are all very beautiful and detailed; they remind me of shows like 5/cm. It's probably (okay, definitely) the strongest point of the movie. The lighting can be really exquisite at time and DEM CLOUDS. I can jerk off to those clouds all day, but I digress. Being a movie, the animation is very good but not exceptional. Standard movie stuff.

Overall, the music is nice and fits the scenes well. They used the music well, as well as silence for those tense moments. The only qualm I have with it is that it just isn't memorable at all. It's hard to recollect any song from memory. Voice acting is decent, but even they couldn't save the sort of bland characters.

This movie is just another fantasy story that doesn't standout or offer anything new. It isn't really remarkable at anything, except perhaps the art. The story left more to be desired and a lot felt somewhat unexplained, especially near the end. I still kind of enjoyed it though. The characters were a little boring, but I still enjoyed their interactions with the new world. If you're looking for something just to enjoy on a boring night, or need a movie the whole family can enjoy, you can give this a try. If you're looking for a masterpiece, you should probably look elsewhere.

WOW They call me Mr. Anime~

Seriously this thread is dead. I've watched at least one episode of everything I'm planning on watching this winter so I'll post my thoughts.

Amagami SS+: This doesn't really have a reason to exist. In the first season, every arc ended in a proper way. This season just seems to be filler situations.
:decent:

Ano Natsu de Matteru: The only show this season that I actually kind of like. JC Staff has put out nothing but shit recently, making them one of the studios I dislike the most, but they made Toradora, which is one of my favorite show. I was really hoping that this original rom-com kinda follows the Toradora formula. Well... it doesn't, but it's still interesting. The characters are very likable, which is kinda rare for JC Staff. I was hoping for a straight-forward story, but there's actually some sort of sci-fi/alien thing going on, so I was a little disappointed. Hell, this is the first episode so they might make it interesting, I don't know. The jokes are pretty good and most of them hit. It's too bad that the episode ended on a terrible note (blatant fanservice that could have been easily avoidable). Ah, old habits die hard, huh JC Staff? Other than that, the animation is pretty damn good and the colors are varied and well used and overall it's very nice to look at. I think I've finished analyzing the first episode.
:excellent:

Another: I think this is supposed to be some type of horror anime or creepy or something along those lines, but I found it funny. It kinda felt like a horror parody. They treated everything as if it was all super serious, even light-hearted situations like going to a new school. I find it much more scary when what seems like normal people end up being crazy, but all these characters feel crazy or suspicious right from the get go, so there's never any tension. It doesn't help that they constantly blast this creepy-esque dark score. It's playing about 90% of the time. The OP was pretty shitty as well. Almost all of the dialogue felt forced or unnatural. Not really anything special.
:grecent:

Brave 10: Seriously one of the worst things I've ever watched. Already dropped this steaming pile of weeaboo shit. The characters are nothing but paper cut-outs with the most annoying tropes attached to them. The story feels boring, unoriginal and lazy. The fight scenes are short, static, and features "secret techniques" which are laughably stupid and unimaginable. The music, OH GOD THE MUSIC. It made my ears bleed. It has probably the worst ED I've ever heard. I'm at a complete loss of words.
:miss:

Nisemonogatari: A lot like Bakemonogatari. Obvious since it's the sequel. It's to bad that I didn't like the first one. I normally like pretentious shows, but the cinematography just doesn't make any sense. It's not artsy; it's annoying bullshit. I never cared much for the characters in the first season, aside from Senjougahara, so I'm expecting the same from this one. Welp, at least I'm expecting good doujins.
:grecent:

Senki Zesshou Symphogear: Bahahaha wtf is going on?
:wayoff:

The only thing I watched so far was episode 1 of "Bodacious Space Pirates". It was totally gnarly, dude.
