But yeah, I think mudkyp would be a good choice for staff. He has a solid grasp of step rhetoric, presentation and sync, boasts a diverse portfolio of prior files, and hasn't stepped anything in ages. A perfect fit 8)

AST is always an hour later than it should be, so you're constantly running with toast in your mouth.

Maybe we should conduct a top 10 poll for the next staff member.

In no particular order:

1. Jayce
2. Mandodo
3. Mudkyp
4. Gazebo
5. Spooty Biscuit
6. TEEX
7. NotChaosUnown/ChaosUnown
8. TheCosmicPope
9. Ninevolt
10. Psychotik

I'm also serious about Psychotik, because he has made some good files, especially in his second pack (not overly familiar with the 3rd yet). Also, I think we should take into consideration about active FotW reviewers as potential staff too, whether they release a lot of their own files frequently or not. At least they have a firm grasp on the concepts of stepmania science.

I'd vote for mudkyp, but only if mandodo also becomes staff.
Then let the good fanny-flustering times roll. 8)

Kidding aside I would probably vote for Chaos and Jayce. Might post more if we have more than 2 possible positions.
Yoshi is better than Mario and you know it's true.

I think you guys are kind of jumping the gun given that all the staff positions are currently filled :P

Xythar, part of Charles's point is that those positions are filled by inactive members. Personally, though, I'm still of the opinion that the whole "staff" thing is pointless. IMO, it just tells newbies and lurkers, "these are the guys who know what they're doing; don't worry about the rest," resulting in fewer downloads for non-staff files and packs because people don't bother looking at them. If you ask me, the only "staff" we need is the moderation staff. Charles and I have talked about this before, and he made a good point when he said that the goal of one day being recognized as a "staff member" here at R21freak was a goal for many of the rest of us to work toward. However, I think a better way to handle things would be to just give out more "awards" rather than competing to see who can earn himself/herself a spot in the cool kids' club. You know, like, "file of the week," "file of the month," "pack of the season," "pack of the year," "most improved stepman," "most creative," "most meticulous," etc. I'd also leave the FotW/FotM/etc judging up to all the board's members rather than just the select few FotW judges we have now. Just every week/month/season/year/etc make a nomination topic, then make a poll topic based on those nominations. Winner gets a little trophy in his profile or whatever.

Yeah I know but they're still the staff right now and working out whole lists of people in advance just felt kind of vulture-ish to me.

Yeah, probably. I'm not even sure if they get more or less downloads/reviews really. Either way, I don't think it's a huge deal. If you build up a reputation for making great simfiles then people will download your stuff regardless of whether you're staff or not. I'm still working on that part, but yeah :P

Ah. I didn't really pay that much attention to them at first outside of TLOES and Zim's stuff, in fact I think one of the first things I grabbed was Valex's latest pack because I knew him from elsewhere. I guess people just interpret the whole setup in different ways.

Hey guys, what's up?
Well this topic isn't in the junkyard so...

I find that Jayce and Spooty Biscuit are the highest potential staff members (Not nominating myself, I'm leaving that choice up to the others). Jayce because in addition to fun simfiles, he also has great experience with FG scripting and unique BPM gimmicks that add a unique twists to gameplay. Spooty because not only does he crank out great singles files, but from what I've seen in the recent U of I tournament, he also has a great handle on couples charts plus an innovative method with noteskins to make them even more doable.

I find myself agreeing with a lot of conflicting viewpoints here, haha.

As a self-proclaimed advocate of small government, I agree with Black Tyler's idea of having no staff outside the moderation staff and going the awards route (given democratically). Having staff just creates a kind of aristocracy, and once in a while a mere plebeian will make a name for him/herself, and sometimes they are "rewarded" with a staff position, leaving the rest of their comrades behind. Yes, staff positions are a nice honor that can motivate the creative minds on this site, but I really don't see why this should be permanent as opposed to just giving merit-based awards. I mean, look at the relatively high rate of turnaround in the staff positions.

My opinion on FotW is also somewhat well-known, and I agree with a democratic process. These files represent the site in a way, and I don't see why they should be determined by one person's tastes. The four-man rotation is a horrible idea because each FotW helper's turn coincides with their menstrual cycle. I suggest a FotW moderator and a voting system.

Lastly, yeah, this is definitely a radical idea, but I'm sure I'm going to get responses along the lines of "well that's how it's always been done so why change it?" (Except maybe not anymore now that I'm mentioning it.) This is an attitude that pervades about half of the dance game community and I won't steer this off topic but ask that people have an open mind and actually criticize ideas rather than just brushing them off.
