I LOVE "Distant Worlds: music from Final Fantasy". I have a physical copy of both albums as well as the DVD of their concert in Tokyo.

In fact, I saw them when they came to NYC in April this year as part of their world tour. Nobuo Uematsu made his guest appearance and danced on stage during One-Winged Angel, while Arnie Roth asked the audience to sing the chorus. It was an amazing show; the opportunity to see "The Opera: Maria & Draco" (FFVI) performed with a live orchestra was a dream come true. Susan Calloway is also an amazing singer; she sang "A Place to Call Home - Melodies of Life" (FINAL FANTASY IX). Towards the end, they played a few tracks from Final Fantasy XIII and XIV. During each song, they would project clips from their respective games onto a screen above the stage. On top of that, the seats were amazing.

Geno (and anyone else who lives in/around PA), Distant Worlds is coming to Pittsburgh February 12, 2012. Tickets are on sale now; prices vary depending on your seat, but it's so worth going regardless.
VIP tickets should also be available, which place you pretty much right by the stage and grant you access backstage to meet Nobuo Uematsu and Arnie Roth. They were $176 last time I checked.

The Opera: Maria and Draco gave me freakin' goosebumps. I really hope that if an anniversary/remake edition of FFVI ever comes out, this piece will be used. #notlikely

I should really post in here more. Not too long ago I copped Devin Townsend's latest album, Ghost. They've taken a step back from they're metal roots and have created this masterpiece of soft rock, folk, and even some near-ambient stuff. I've already recommended this to a couple friends on facebook so I guess I should post it here to. I whole heartedly recommend it.

Here's a little sample:

If you listen to it and like it, you should know that Ghost 2 is on its way as well.

Only listened for a minute, but I like what I heard. I'll check it out when I get home.

Bump. Why is this thread so dead? It's like the only good thread on the main boards.

I hardly have any similar music interest with anyone on this board. Thats why i usually stay away from posting.

I just finished Alesana's new album "A Place Where The Sun Sets".
I was pretty hyped for the album when it was in its concept stages. Shawn Mike (Vocals) stated that he wanted to make his albums more into a concept album, telling a story a long the way. Kind of like what he did with the previous album "The Emptiness" which was based on Edgar Allen Poe's "Annabel Lee"

Anyways onto the music. This album seems a lot lighter than the rest. Not that Alesana always focused on screaming vocals, but its seems even more toned down in this album that the others. Being put into the background of the song, or just having it during a specific part of the song and not hearing it again. Well okay, I really enjoy Shawns singing anyways, but the variety was one of the things i really liked about Alesana.
They also include their typical violins and piano, but with the addition with a saxophone in a few songs. I wasn't a big fan, felt like swing music when it was playing. Just didn't feel like it fit into the music they were trying to present.
Perhaps I'll give it another chance when it comes out, wasn't much a fan of the quality (Pretty sure it was a web rip)
Entire album is available for a listen here

Two other artist i have picked up on lately are
Mr. Fijiwiji - Most of his music is Dubstep, Ambient, he also has some house among other things. Unfortunately he doesn't have a single EP out. He is releasing this song on Monstercat on the 18th though. And will have an EP out sometime soon.... hopefully

The other is Veela. I don't particularly love her music specifically, but i love the songs she is featured in. Her vocals just blow me away. I found about her through Ephixa's song with her, but she seems to be going through all of that group. Feint, Blackmill, Ephixa, TwoThirds, etc. They all seem to talk to each other on a somewhat regular basis.

You're definitely right about Veela's vocals. Wow, really nice. That Mr Fijiwiji song sounds pretty neat as well, even though I'm not a big fan of dubstep. I might check out his EP when it drops.

Tyler, if you want some real good dubstep check Rustie's Glass Swords album that came out recently. I've been posting videos all over facebook yesterday about this guy 'cause he's so good. Such a good album.

Just went through Memphis May Fire's debut album "The Hollow"
I was pleasantly surprised by this band. I always thought it was more of like an Attack Attack or Abandon All Ships. Not the synth influenced part of those bands. Just the fact that their singing vocals seem bland with generic beat downs. Memphis seems to include their vocals and put thought into them. It seems more raw sounding, like something you would hear from Dylan Anderson (Of Machines). I also enjoyed their screaming aspect. He ranges, doesn't just stick to high or lows, goes in all direction. Best part is, he sounds good doing them all. No generic breakdowns either, much more thought out, put it interesting places or have unusual/technical parts to them. If your a fan of Post-hardcore I'd suggest checking them out.

I watched an episode of Outlaw Star the other day for no reason and remembered how soothing Akino Arai's voice is.
Her stuff is a little harder to find in good quality, but i found it. I know use it as part of my sleeping playlist. Its to bad a lot of her other songs are just really strange or at least to me they are. I love this calming soothing sounds.
If anyone can recommend any other songs for me i would be grateful.

Lastly if anyone can recommend a certain type of song/band to me, i would be grateful as well. I'm not exactly sure what it falls into, but I'll try to give examples. I like to call it progressive rock, even though i highly doubt thats what its called. Its just a progressive song. Starts out slow and calm, gradually getting more and more intense. Eventually just reaching a peak and ending or coming back down. Either way I REALLY enjoy songs like these two "examples" I'm giving. It doesn't technically need vocals.

I'm going through Sota Fujimori's Synthesized 3 right now. (Yeah I know I'm a few months late)

Starting with the Neo Contra OST, pretty cool. Nothing has wowed me yet, though. I have a feeling that will change once I get to the ACTUAL synthesized part of it.

Yeah, SYNTHESIZED3 was alright. Not much of it really wowed me either; 2 is still my favorite. There were a couple tracks though that particularly stuck out to me.
- With You... 2011
- Try 2 Luv. U -SF Electro House Mix-
- Drum'n Funk
- Need Your Love -Extended Mix-
- Fly Above -Piano Version-

Ólafur Arnalds is an Icelandic artist that crosses modern classical music with post-rock. I discovered him back in August as I was browsing random post-rock tracks on Youtube (i.e., Eluvium, God is an Astronaut, Circadian Eyes, etc.). The first album I got to listen through was Eulogy for Evolution. There are maybe one or two tracks that are heavy on the post rock elements, otherwise most of it is pretty tame with symphonic violin, cello and piano melodies. All instrumental too. I'd imagine people who like Sigur Rós would like this as well.

Free mp3 (128 kbps) for 3055 on Last.fm

• He has just recently came out with a new album called Living Room Songs.
All of those tracks are downloadable for free HERE. All you have to do is promote it by either "Liking" it on Facebook or retweeting on Twitter.

Circadian Eyes is another must-have for instrumental ambient post-rock enthusiasts. He's relatively new, seeing as how this "project" just started up in 2010, but his popularity seems to have escalated quite a bit since then (7,100 listeners, 104,000 plays on last.fm). Furthermore, 80% of this guy's music is free for download on Bandcamp in the encoding of your choice (FLAC, 320, v0, etc.). I also love the artwork that goes along with each album cover.

In March 2011, he released a new album, Who We Were.

I listened to it last night and loved each track from start to finish.

Ah yes I remember that guy. Neat stuff.

Time to build up some hipster cred. So, who here likes avant-garde Japanese noise rock? Everyone? Cool, 'cause you'll love Fushitsusha. They've been jammin' out noise since the 70s, have a ton of albums but only 89,346 plays (9,393 listeners). Not sure if they still play. I really recommend the Purple Trap album.

Okay, maybe something that people other than me will like. How about Dhal. They make Trip-hop. People like Trip-hop. It's too bad that they've only made one album (81,619 plays, 2,029 listeners).
