Most of the 2011 heavy mtl lineup it up, and I am torn XD

http://groupes.heavymtl.com/?sort=day

Kiss is the biggest headliner... In a grooving metal festival, and Billy Talent is the 3rd name on the posters, what a load of shit. But there are some solid bands like Motorhead, Anthrax and Opeth, i'm not a huge disturbed fan but a lot of ppl seem to be really hyped about em :/

Billy talent is going to be a rock throwing fest..

This year is gonna be pretty terrible. Disturbed is just awful. Kiss is for old people.

The fact that Evenko thinks that Billy talent is a great move on their part is just sad, I guess that the rock throwing is going to be a lulzy YT vid :/

New Burzum album released March 7th: "Fallen"

Image

burzum.org wrote:Musically "Fallen" is like a cross between "Belus" and something new, inspired more by the début album and "Det Som Engang Var" than by "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" or "Filosofem". The sound is more dynamic - we mastered the album as if it was classical music - and I was more experimental than I was on "Belus" in all respects. Lyricwise it is similar to the début album, in the way that it is more personal and focuses on existential issues, but the mythological untertone known from "Belus" is still there. I have also included some ambient tracks - a short introduction and a longer conclusion.

UnexpecT posted an update on their new album, "Fables of the Sleepless Empire".
One of the new tracks was posted as a teaser. It can be heard on their flash player, or downloaded freely.

It's super old news, but anybody who still hasn't heard The Aurora Veil EP from Ne Obliviscaris is missing out big time:

The other two tracks may or may not be even better. I can't decide. The record as a whole is just incredible.

Relatively mainstream albums that have dropped recently that I've been a big fan of are:

-As Blood Runs Black
-Protest the Hero
-Children of Bodom
-Amon Amarth

Between the Buried and Me (EP) :D
OMNOMNOM.

In commemoration of Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010)!

Image

Between his work with Ritchie Blackmore's band "Elf", with Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell,Tenacious D, and finally as Dio, the man has contributed so much to metal music over the past several decades. Not to mention he was (appropriately) regarded as being one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal. I'll never forget the first time I heard Holy Diver and how it lead me explore more of his work and other projects of his. May his legacy live on forever. Long live the Man on the Silver Mountain!

Bumpu.

Star one - Victims of the Modern Age

I recently came across this band randomly. Some guy described the album as "metal inspired by the band members favorite sci-fi movies" (paraphrasing here). Yeah. Space Metal. Viking metal and Pirate Metal isn't enough. It's an interesting album. Sounds very, uh, spacey. It's basically power metal with more synth (at times) but it's nice. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes themed/concept bands.

Oh yeah and Opeth has a new track out too, I guess. Looking forward to the album.

I thought Iconoclast was really boring and had an annoying generic sound. Bleh. Dream Theater's last album kinda blew compared to some of their more famous albums.

I heard of Circus Maximus somewhere before, but I've never heard any of there song. It was okay I guess. Not really digging their style. Left me kinda bored. Oh well.

Might as well talk about some recent stuff.

Animals as Leaders - Weightless
I've never actually heard as single song of theirs before I downloaded this leak. Why did I download it? Word-of-mouth I guess, I dunno. I like them. They are really really technical and play it very well. I've only listened to it once so far so I can't really make an accurate review of what I thought. I liked it though.

Born of Osiris - The Discovery
This one good. You might be aware of this band since Pope stepped one of their songs ages ago, Bow Down. They play progressive death metal. They are really heavy sounding and play loudly. Definitely a good album. Once again, I've only heard it once, so I can really be that descriptive. Here's a sample:

That's about it for now.

eh, animals as leaders first album was kinda boring imo, but it had some moments. i usually get bored of listening to djenty stuff like periphery after one or two songs though. haven't heard the second album yet, mine as well check it out though, why not.

i see a new insomium album on the front page of UG. anyone heard that yet?

I guess I can see that. I heard the instrumental version of their self-titled album. The majority of it was "just alright", although tracks like Insomnia, The Walk, and Zyglrox were gems. I like them a lot better without any vocals.

Anyone familiar with Behold... the Arctopus? More crazy progressive shit.
