In the future, a better way to do this competition would be able to have an FTP server we could drop the files anonymously to, or we could have a person we can send them to who would record who wrote the files and then clean up the .sm's and any trace of any names for us and then send them to the judges. That way, when the competition is over and someone goes "Who wrote Galaxy Blast?" someone can't just go "MEEEE".

I'd assume foreground would not be allowed for the same reason banners are not allowed: they distract the judge and could potentially bias their review on the chart: the point of the comp is to review the chart and the chart alone.

Why are you both trying to justify this? I don't know Blazing, but is it so wrong to think that tournaments should be structured as fair as possible? It's very easy to just get another judge if you absolutely need 4. I'm really interested in entering this, but it's just a little bit annoying.

The people that he doesn't know that are entering are more likely to be free of bias, but the entrants that Blazing does know are more likely to be impacted by the existence of bias. (i.e. you see a chart submitted by mute and you think "I usually like charts by mute", or a similar situation with a step artist that he might think is bad)

Well, I guess we just have to trust that Tony wouldn't tell Rik which file is his. This is a good point. Still not arguing against my point, just making my case even stronger.

While I don't think my judging will be biased, I agree that the possibility is there, and I like your idea of having an intermediary to send files to. Unfortunately I think implementing such an idea after submissions have already started would be unfair to those people who have already submitted files, but I'm all for using that method in future competitions. Remember that all of the judges will have to justify their rankings, so it would be difficult for me to play favorites even if I wanted to. Also, since the files themselves won't have the artist's name, it's likely that I won't even know who made the file when I'm playing it.
If there is widespread concern over my bias, I will remove myself from the judging panel, but I don't believe that there is any cause for alarm.

P.S. - Other judges will likely make their guesses as to who submitted what, creating their own biases even though they don't actually know the identities of the steppers, so it is impossible to really have an unbiased judging panel anyway.

As to the issue of foreground animations: no, they are not allowed, for the same reason that background animations are not allowed.

Blazing, how about implementing a rule that when people submit, they don't even tag the name of the song in the zip/rar? That way, when you download the file and extract the contents to the Songs folder, it will already be a mixed bag; you won't actually know which song is which until you open each one individually.
