Oh man, I don't even know what to think about a Beach Themed IIDX mix. Regardless, I'm excited, especially for Dirty Androids - Golden Palms [NU DISCO]. Woah doggy.

Also yeah, Sirius CS. Fingers crossed in hopes of a PS2 release. They haven't said anything definite about the PS3 crossover yet, right?

Allegedly, EMPRESS was supposed to be the last ps2 release. I wouldnt mind a ps3 release if they just came out with a functional converter. Time will tell, I guess :|

Heh, I've said "I dont know about a ______ theme" for the last three mixes and Konami has been doing a good job of disproving my doubts. Then again, it could be completly awful

That said, I'm also looking forward to Golden Palms. Dirty Androids just sorta came outta nowhere and I've liked everything of theirs.

I can't for the life of me find a BMUS controller. Got the game for $8, but no controller = terrible gameplay. The cheapest I've seen goes for about $70 on Ebay.

what are you using for a search phrase? I typed in "beatmania" on ebay and there are at least three auctions going on where the max bid is under 50. I've heard stories of people getting controllers for dirt cheap on craigslist too. BMUS flopped pretty hard a long time ago and most of the people who have the controllers as collectables. Hell, I have a controller that I haven't touched in at least half a year 8)

After quite a while, I finally got something I'm pretty proud of. Passed Least 100 sec [a] from Gold! Really fun, but I could never keep it up at the end before.

Also hard cleared a couple new things like Scream Squad [a] and on a totally lucky try, Please Don't Go [a]. Finished with 2% on that, haha

Very nice, Gloves. I've seen those charts and know that I'm nowhere near passing those

I need a new tv, so I haven't been able to play for a while. Not looking forward to being stuck on 9s when I remedy that situation >_<

Goood stuff, Gloves. So beast.

I haven't really played IIDX recently, though I hope to get back into it this summer. :)

I think I'm the only person playing iidx at the moment :(

Passed 不沈艦CANDY [a] out of the blue. Somehow mashed out the ending and ended with 80. I'm aiming for either bitter chocolate striker [a], or kung fu empire [b] next, we'll see what happens.

Also, the genre for Kung Fu Empire is supposed to be "Asian Jungle", but there's a typo in empress and it says "Asian Jangle". Makes me smile everytime I play it

i'm playing very sporadicaly but don't really have anything accomplishment worthy :-P
I made a mistake and got a plasma tv and though the lanes don't burn in they still retain for a while so I don't really play as much as I'd like to :-(

Gloves, I hear playing on random helps ease the transition fro 9s to 10s. How much validity is there to that/ how did you get so damn good??

Playing on random is definitely a good thing to do. It makes strange chords and uncomfortable patterns much more common, and when you start to plateau in skill, it ensures that you aren't just playing the exact same thing again and again while you bash your head into the wall.

That said, I don't play random as much as other people tell me to. I like the feel of original charts. I like my pitch relevancy, I like my bass hits on 1, and it feels more comfortable. Random can be a lot of fun though too, and many people prefere it. Plus, all the people I know who are better than me play more random than I do though, so take that how you will, haha.

Aside from playing random, a couple other things you can do to improve are:

- Play a wide variety of songs. If you have multiple mixes of iidx play them all. More variety =more experience = better player.
- Adjust your green number occasionally. I used to go 310, then I went 290, now I go 300. Even small adjustments can make a huuuge difference in how you read charts.
- Play things that are a little too hard for you as long as it isn't completely overwhelming (as in, you never get above 20% the whole song). If you're breaking into 10's try the 11's too. It's worth a shot, right? You might just surprise yourself
- Use hard mode! Hard mode + Random is a magical combination that can turn easy songs into new challenges. It'll force you to take each measure more seriously, and stop just "going through the motions" of easy parts you've played a bunch of times.
- Sometimes taking a little time off helps. Playing a few hours a day for a week is obviously helpful, but taking a few days off and clearing your mind can prove surprisingly beneficial when you come back things suddenly start clicking into place. It doesn't always happen, but it's magical when it does.

It can be discouraging to keep failing the same songs, but as long as you vary it up, you should be able to keep it fresh and interesting.

Finally, if you have two controllers, I can't recommend highly enough playing some 14key. Not only is it fantastically fun and different, but it does wonders for individual hand dexterity, and when you go back to 7key it's like putting on training wheels.

Good luck, and have fun!

After seeing that the break upgraded for the first time since I've been going there, I decided to try IIDX out. I snagged a BMUS bundle for 25 bucks off ebay, and I've been playing for about a week now. I can do 5/6s on normal and I've passed 1 hyper 5. I'm going to look into getting swap magic and a JP mix when I can pass hyper 6s or so, because the song selection in BMUS is kinda lacking except for a few gems :?

Good idea. Especially since the lowest difficulty on the JP mixes is much higher than the US version. (Vanessa is an 8 on normal and there are no beginner charts [though I think it's misrated]) and most normal charts are 5-6.

Easy pass on Attitude hyper(7), would've got the normal pass if it wasn't for the ending
Pretty high A on Miracle Meets normal(6)

Still have trouble with multiple scratches in a row with 2-3 buttons at the same time and in between. I have to learn to adjust my right hand so it covers more keys when I scratch with the left, and also I sometimes have trouble using my thumb while scratching.

Good stuff, man. I was confused at first when you mentioned MIRACLE MEETS but then I remembered the Break just got Sirius. Lucky dogs, that must be awesome. But yeah keep up the good work, doodski.

Played some Empress for a couple hours today. Nothing truly notable occurred. Raised a few As on 9s to AAs, -24 from AA on Quasar [h] arrrghh. Gotta get dat AA u kno. Cleared a couple new 10s (among which was Kung-fu Empire, such a baller tune), too. Tryna rack up AAAs on 6s and 7s but only managing to amass a few, my timing is a dick-titty. Gonna play some more tomorrow hopefully, and try to keep the practice sessions more regular than once every couple weeks. :D
