A few updates and questions

So as we here at r21freak are busy enjoying our new pad and getting ready for the next site event (which should be unveiled sometime next week or so), we're also working on a few more unlockable surprises. And with all of this r21freak momentum (and the recent site bill that came), we've come up with yet another idea. However, I wanted a few member opinions before I made any decisions.

So here's the idea. r21freak costs me about $100 a year to run as it is now. This wasn't too big a deal the first time I purchased it, it was a little annoying last year, and now this year it is almost unapayable. So our idea to fix the problem is this: donations! But not just any sort of donations, of course. We thought that rewarding donators with either special stepfiles, ranks, forums or whatever would be a good idea, but we didn't want to go too crazy. So my question to you all is what you would like best in return for donations to the site, if you're even a fan of donations in the first place. Personally I'm a fan of special home-made stepfiles, and we already have a few ideas for some really good ones. However, no matter what, I can honestly say that even $5 from just a few members would go a LONG way to ensuring that this site is still around next year.

But anyway, now is not the time to be begging for money, it's the time to be getting input What do you all think?

i do! ranks would be awesome or maybe a forum.. as for stepfiles..i think if ur gonna make a stepfile that cool.. you shuld release it everyone..but thats just my opignion

I think it would be cool if I donated and in return I could get a small favor towards musical projects and aspirations of mine, if you have any talent or knowledge with/of such media (which is why I'm wondering which members you speak of, since it could play into my musical ideas). Or help on a small-scale school assignment. >>; Or you could just send me your kidney.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the idea of ranks? Honestly, when you donate to something, it shouldn't be something to brag to everyone about, like "YEAH WELL I'M A 100 DOLLAR DONATOR WAT." Having "donator ranks" visible by everyone would kind of do that. Just saying.

Unlockable files would be cool though.

But, I could only imagine that every would abuse the hell out of it if files could be hosted on the server space. If that idea even comes to mind. The more you donate, the more server space you get to host your crap.

Just a few comments. I agree with Steve and I'm not too sure about giving out ranks for donations. I'd really rather not have donations be a sort of bragging point for members, but at the same time the donators do deserve recognition. I don't think custom titles would be a good idea, since that would take away from the prestige of winning a competition, but something small and pre-made could work (if we do ranks at all).

Other members have asked me in the past about purchasing space to host their files and other stuff on r21freak, and while I'm not completely opposed to it, I'm not too sure. We certainly have enough disk space and it's easy enough to limit people to 1 gig or so each, but my main concern is taking away from the prestige of being a staff member and having your stuff hosted on the site only then. But then again, I don't think that's as big a deal as say the custom titles.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I'm glad to know that so many of you would be interested in helping out No matter what though, there will at least be bonus stepfiles available for donators, in addition to anything else we decide on. Maybe we could just make it a buffet-style thing and you can pick and choose whatever you want.

One donation of multiple dollars, one graphics request. Seriously; sssmsm and other staff make awesome gfx. Or maybe it's possible to do a collaboration file with a staff member or something? Then it's like you get learning time or something. Of course; this is more time on the part of sssmsm/possibly staff members, but I'm just throwing it out there.
