r21freak's Pad is Finished!

Postby sssmsm on Sat Jan 10, 2009 10:20 pm

...and it only took five months! :D

Image

Oooh. Aaah.

Image

With customized r21freak arrow panels, of course.

As you can tell it lacks a bar at the moment (that's next on the list...), but that's not really too big a deal since we're all terribly out of shape from not playing any significant amount of ITG in so long. So 8's, 9's and 10's are perfect no-bar challenges at the moment. In fact, I've been especially enjoying Yoko's Hard charts from r21twins, and x0_000 and NIQ9's Hard charts as well. Thanks to everyone who always goes the extra mile to make sure that there is a quality 8-10 along with their Expert chart too!

Anyway, as promised there will soon be a new r21freak site event based around the completion of the pad. Unfortunately, the majority of the r21freak crew is away for winter break, so it will have to wait until late January/early February to start, but I can pretty much guarantee you that it will be worth the wait. Plus, now that we've waited so long to start it, I've learned a lot more about the marvels of modern technology and how it can be used to make it an even more fun experience.

And now I leave you with requests for good Hard charts (and Easy ones for ohisian too!) and a clue for the upcoming event. Have fun guessing, and anyone who is planning on making their own pad and doesn't know where to start, feel free to ask us now that we have a good amount of experience :D

Clue #1!

oooooh, I can't wait to get back and play on that. Looks really nice, and maybe I'll finally get back into decent shape after barely playing for so long.

Also, I know the surprise event and I don't even get the clue, haha. Good luck guessing, guys :D

The clue is probably sssmsm just trying to throw us off. It probably has nothing to do with what it actually is  Also, out of curiosity, is the pad really sensitive, like an actual machine?

Pepper -> Paper
Every member has to write a five-page paper on why they love r21Freak.

Can I get away with just listing 5 pages of simfiles, or do I have to state actual points?

Pepper -> shaker -> shake shake shake -> milkshake!

I agree with SteveReen though. The clue has nothing to do with the event.

That pad looks nice. If I made one though, I'd go for the bare metal "I've hit the arrows so many times I don't need decals to tell them apart" look.

On a related note, I've constructed a frame to go around my pads, so I can play doubles. Main piece of advice: Know how wide a 2x6 is, and if you don't, do something to make sure you aren't cutting the plywood sheet that goes under everything too small.

I could probably pull that off.

That'd be pretty awesome, though not exactly new. I started posting here after a get-together thing at TGA, at which time I didn't even know any of the people were from this site. And the first ever pass on WiFO occurred that night.

I haven't gotten any pad misses yet, just me-sucking misses. I really can't complain about the sensitivity at all, though doing crossovers and fast 16ths without the bar after playing bar-only for five years REALLY sucks.

Kyzentun wrote:On a related note, I've constructed a frame to go around my pads, so I can play doubles.

One of our r21freak friends is also making his own pad over break, so hopefully he'll bring his back here too and we can play doubles as well :D

Haha, don't worry. There will be more helpful clues to come

That was easily the best TGA trip I've ever had, and one of the best ITG experiences of my life :D

Hehe, yeah. Passing that song isn't a big deal to me anymore, but it was pretty awesome at the time (especially since I'd never even kb'd it before, and I passed it in like my 4th or 5th try). That's really the main reason I like that file -- it's not a file I'd normally look at and say "AWESOME" but the memories behind it are amazing :P

Haha, looking forward to more hints on what this event is...

Nope, he'll bring his back, and you'll find that it's built to a different height ("Oh, you used 1/2" plywood? I used 1"."), and they slide apart easily anyway. So you'll get frustrated playing doubles, and decide you need to build a frame.
Doubles no bar is awesome though.
