So many wonderful things coming and leaving

Postby sssmsm on Mon Apr 13, 2009 7:43 pm

Amidst the celebration of the release of Comp IV (and again congrats Mootz and everyone else who participated!), there is a bit of sad news. One of our most beloved staff members here at r21freak, mattatdi, has moved to the Retired Staff section. He is the famed creator of such ridiculously awesome files as Twin Chevron, Storm Raid Battle SX, Party Bomb SX, The Strong Jaeger, Gaussian Mist, and don't forget his awesome 8-bit and Dazzlin' Darlin' Doubles charts amongst so, so much more.

After not seeing a new file from him in months, even in site events, I asked mattatdi if he had any future plans to make new stuff. Unfortunately he said he would no longer be able to, so it is with a heavy heart that I had to move him into the Staff Retirement home. Luckily, there's some pretty cool people in there now, so he really shouldn't be too lonely at all, sitting in his rocking chair and choking down pills. Besides, I had his assurances that he would continue to be a normal member of the site for as long as he could, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief that mattatdi will never be too far away for a chat about Rock Band, asking him just how to exactly pronounce his name for the thousandth time, or begging for a goodnight kiss. Thank you again for your legacy mattatdi, we will cherish it.

In losing a staff member however, that means that there is now an empty space that needs to be filled. Who is going to be the newest staff member at r21freak? Only time will tell....

Staff changes aside, there's so much stuff planned to be happening here within the next month or so, I can hardly believe it! Most importantly of them, I'm going to be implementing something soon that will give new reasons to play official r21freak stuff. It was an idea suggested by a member, and I couldn't stop thinking about how good an idea it was when I first heard it. It should be up within the next week or two.

Also, now that Comp IV is over, we need something else to satiate our r21-making needs for a while. To fill that, we're going to be starting up a new official r21freak site pack, the successor to r2112 and r21twins. Obviously, what people have had to say about the past two packs has not fallen on deaf ears, and this one is going to be carried out differently than the other two, so that ALL stepfile tastes are catered to. It should be a ton of fun, and expect it to start within the next week or two as well.

Besides those two massive things, there's a bunch of little stuff planned too. New unlockables are coming soon (a month or so), once I finish them up. There's another Iron Chef on the horizon as well (a month or so), so orangelove (where is he anyway??) can defend his title against the competitors (who will they be this time around??). Plus there's going to be another, fun little original contest up soon, run by a member of the site who has always wanted to do something like this but never had the chance to. It should be ridiculously fun, and I can only say right now that it has to do with Party Bomb... sort of! Expect that within the next few weeks. And, of course, none of this includes the stuff planned for the summer....

Phew, so much stuff! Never a dull moment here at r21freak. But yeah, for now let's all enjoy the Comp IV files, say our goodbyes to staff mattatdi and hello to member mattatdi, and speculate speculate speculate! :D

This is truly saddening. Twin Chevron is in my top 10 favorite files from this site, and always will be.

But I am looking forward to these new events :D

The notes in that section are neither 12ths at 180 bpm nor 16ths at 180 bpm, but they are a lot lot closer to 16ths at 180 bpm than 12ths.

Seriously, sucks about mattatdi; he's one of my favorites of the staff. :(
Twin Chevron was indeed awesome.
I have a few ideas as to who might be the new staff member, so whomever is decided on is fine with me.

I look forward to the new site pack as well.

Sucks to see mattatdi retire, what an awesome step artist. There's a bunch of possibilities for a new staff member, so I'm looking forward to who it may be.

No, seriously, I had no idea so much stuff was coming in the next few weeks. (I thought the Staff section was looking a little small today...) Shweet.

Thanks for the awesome retire speech ssssmsm haha, and everyone else. It was definitely awesome being one of the staff here for as long as I was, but now its time for someone else to step up :D. Im sure whoever it is will be great. I cant complain too much though being next to macgravel <3. If i get a new computer, i may put out stuff or participate in site events which i enjoy a lot actually.

One of these 3 is my guess: Mandodo, Zimlord, ICNH.
Mandodo is first guess, since he seems to fill a stepping style not already covered (not to sure on this). Nemo covers gimmicks already, so that makes Zimlord less likely.
ICNH goes too long between releases, so that makes him less likely.

If you're not going to allow people to submit home scores to your custom ranking, it's useless as far as I'm concerned.
We're honest people here, and we can play with timing windows and lifebar difficulties set by you. There's no need for the groovestats policy of deleting any suspected home score.

This will be mildly cool. At least, mildly cool if any are in the range that I can actually pad.
