Like Blazing said, this discussion comes up all the time. If you do some digging, you could easily find the older topics.

I joined the site shortly after it went public. At the time, I usually posted on DDRFreak (which was still very active in 2006/7) and sometimes ITGFreak. I didn't really post much here until r2112 came out. 2008 was really the peak of the site, IMO. That was back when NEMO actually made the site fun, Scott and Gloves were regular posters, and the drama was fun to read. The post quality has gone downhill over the years and I don't think this site will ever be as active as it used to be. You also have to keep this is mind: A lot of us joined the forum when we were in high school and whatnot. In 2007, I was a sophomore in high school and I had no job. I had plenty of time to post and make stepcharts. Now, I'm finishing my second year of college, and I work 30+ hours a week. If I still had the free time I had back then, I would be just as active. I think the biggest factor of the inactivity is people actually have lives now.
I still have just as much interest in DDR and ITG as I had in 2007. Roxor settled not even a week after I first played ITG, so I'm not really familiar with the community before that. I still play ITG whenever I can. I'm constantly looking for more music to step. I have almost a dozen simfiles to release (I'm waiting for the comp to be over to release them). I don't have as much time now, but I still play, I still play to get better, and I enjoy the game just as much as ever. I'm not going anywhere. I'll keep posting on this site until it's shut down.
5 years from now? I will still be playing dancing games. Even if I can only play at home, I will still be playing. If this site is still up, I will still post. AIJ has been up for a long time as well, and I don't see that site going anywhere either.
ARE TWENTY ONE RODD wrote:r21freak was my escape from ITGFreak and AIJ because people that hang about there are nothing but elitist assholes, and I'm sure a few of the newest members agree with me and probably share the same reason. On AIJ or ITGFreak, you could never get praise unless you were superbly good and/or you were somewhat good friends with some of the pro members of their local community.
Honestly, it's only a few people on AIJ that are like that. The majority of the users there are ok IMO.

I was thinking about doing the same to haysuptats because it was obvious she was trolling too. I banned little matt because I've seen a ton of posts from him on AIJ about r21freak and I knew it wouldn't be long before he became a huge pest. I'm glad I didn't ban haysuptats because some of her posts are actually funny, haha. I don't think this would have been the case with little matt. haysuptats is basically NEMO's replacement.
mudkyp wrote:Little Matt is one of those people. He's one of my best friends and he's a total sweetheart once you see past his trolling. I'm the same way, I am a complete douchebag on the internet, but I would like to think I show people I'm a pretty sweet guy after they meet me, or with more conversation.
It's unfortunate that I haven't seen this side of little matt. I only know his internet persona, and I can't stand him. Maybe I would think differently if I knew him IRL, but I've never met him, so I can't say. I have seen you though, Charles. I didn't talk to you or anything, but you seemed like a good person from what I noticed. I was expecting you to be a douchebag, but I really didn't see any of that. It was at FML 2.
mudkyp wrote:R21freak and AIJ are two different animals, but good things come from both. I think AIJ's elitist label should at least be fading. There are players posting on there right now who are barely starring 11's. Yes of course there's an occasional post from a condescending asshole, but overall we motivate and push each other to improve. It's a great atmosphere.
I agree with all of this. AIJ really isn't that bad.

Dark Luke wrote:I feel like the world of dance pad gaming is dying, making me wonder whether I should continue to make files or not (is anyone going to play them?)
YES. I'd play them as long as the music is good. Your stepfiles are unique and it's nice to play some files a little different than the norm sometimes.
Pope wrote:RODD, you're being a baby lol. People troll on the internet - ignore it. If only you could read the shit Monst3rjoe texts to me lol (it's golden). Post your scores. Just because people don't comment doesn't mean they don't notice. And if you are only getting scores for praise, you're probably playing for the wrong reasons.
This. NOBODY reviews any simfiles I actually release, yet I still feel motivated to make them. I will never make a simfile I don't like playing on ITG or SM, so I guess it's more for myself.
AJAX wrote:I came because I heard people liked gimmicks, so I released my Pollinosis file. I also wanted to share more files and play other people's files. It was fun

haha. It's strange how much the site has changed since then. We still have the occasional ZIMCORE GIMMICK file, but with NEMO and MacG gone, gimmicks haven't really been as widespread.
Blazing wrote:There will also definitely be more events after Comp VI, and hopefully we can keep the site going for a while.
I hope so too. This site really seems to be focused around site events. Y'know,
HINT HINT around now is usually when the new site pack starts up. Since BiB took forever, we haven't had one in a long time and we are LONG overdue for a new one. Not sure if it's in the plan or anything, but yeah, it needs to happen.

Shut up RODD I commented on your Birdie quad
Speaking of, I think facebook might be a factor in the lack of traffic here. Why post something here when you have half of the site on facebook? heh
