Comp VI Interest Thread!

Postby Blazing on Sun Jan 09, 2011 10:12 pm

With a new year comes a new stepfile competition, and so I'd like to begin preparing for r21freak Comp VI. However, before you get too excited, take note that this isn't an announcement thread, rather I'd like to use this thread to get an idea of who would be interested in entering and what format the community would prefer for the comp. Some discussion has already taken place about the judging format, and I get the feeling that most people were happy with the system used in the past two comps, but I'm still willing to listen to new ideas, so if you have any, please speak up! Also, unless we use a community-based system, which seems unlikely, we'll need designated judges, so if you're interested in judging, make a note of that in this thread (even if you'd still like to compete).

I did like how the last few comps went. I thought it was fair. I do have one idea but it's more open to bias and might be to much of a hassle to everyone.

My idea was to let everyone be the judge. We accept submissions and whatnot like usual, but instead of having 4 judges, everyone who sent in something becomes a judge. The pack gets sent by PM leading to a secret link or something. They judge all the files in the pack, but not their own, obviously, and send the results to however is hosting the comp. If after a certain deadline someone hasn't sent in their results, they automatically get disqualified. It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it's right for an official comp. There are just to many factors to consider. I stick by the 4 judges, or maybe even 3.

Woooo, Comp VI. Thanks for putting the gears in motion here, Blazing. Like I mentioned in the unofficial JY discussion thread, I would be down for judging. :D

If I remember correctly Scott tried something like this for the Scholarship Comp and it was pretty riggy. Also this sounds like it would require too much effort on everyone's part (the disqualifying bit).

I'm pretty interested, although this is the first one I'd ever enter so this could be a good way to get my bearings. c:

I liked the system used for the last few comps and if you used that same one I'd be OK with it

Last comp was probably the fairest one, albeit LoL nEmO fIlE placing ridiculously high. Also yeah would probably enter I guess.

I would love to see Comp VI happen no matter what. Sign me up as a potential judge. I'm more likely to be interested in that than competing at this point in time. Seeing as how Scott's and Gloves' rankings tend to be nearly polar opposite of Jeff's and Steve's, I'm curious as to whether there will be a generally higher mutual agreeing with the final results.

That is the only part of Comp V I was dissatisfied with. Better late than never.

I figure it's largely pointless to suggest doubles submissions be accepted.

I think judges should be allowed to assign ties to their rankings. For example:

Ranks:
1: some song
2: another song
3: slkdf ewlr
4: sldkfjsdl
5: ldfgjkiej
5: groove groove
6: Butterfly
7: Max 300
8: Brave Phoenix (Nanoha A Insert Song)
8: slierjslekfjd lsdkfj lsdkfj
8: Star Wars: Imperial March
9: Burning Pipers Hut
10: Kamui
11: not a song
11: a beautiful song
12: preview
13: save
14: BBCode is ON

I would enter a doubles comp, but who else would seriously go through with it? Kyzentun, Dark Luke, me, maybe NIQ9, orangelove even though he dropped off the face of the earth.

I think it makes sense to have a doubles faction in the same comp like there's been in the past.

In the likely event that I judge singles and that doubles has its own set of judges, I'd probably enter doubles for the heck of it, haha. Though realistically I don't see doubles happening.
