Looking for new FotW Helpers!

As you may have noticed, there has been no FotW for the past two weeks. Unfortunately, it is my sad duty to announce that Kindan and [ICNH] are retiring from their positions as FotW helpers. [ICNH] is the only FotW Helper who has been around since the beginning, and Kindan was the one responsible for coming up with the idea for FotW Packs, in addition to maintaining them. They will be sorely missed.

However, after our time for lamenting is over, it then becomes time to find TWO new FotW Helpers to fill their empty spaces. If you are interested in the position, what you need to do is write two FotW-esque reviews for two files posted within the past month (the more recent the file the better), from Individual Files and/or Packs of Files. Once you have done that, PM them to me by December 19th 11:59PM EST. I will then look over all of the entries and pick the two I feel are most capable to fill the position. Note that the reviews must be new ones, you cannot simply copy a review you have already written.

For those who do not know, the FotW Helper position requires you to do FotW once a month. We have a discussion board set aside just for FotW Helpers and Admins to discuss who should win, so don't worry if you think it will be a ridiculous amount of work. It is a great way to get known around the website and get your own stuff reviewed as well. Plus you get a cool red bar! And don't worry; your files can still win FotW even if you are a FotW Helper, of course.

So, if you disagree with the FotW choice each week and think you could do it better, love FotW as it is an want to be a part of it, or just want to be more of a part of r21freak, have fun and write some good reviews, then PM me your stuff before its too late

Just submitted my stuff for this. Found two awesome files I probably wouldn't have even checked out if I didn't need stuff for this, so I've already won regardless of the outcome.

Since I'm embracing r21freak and its activities more, I was enthralled when this opportunity came up. Also, writing these two were VERY good review-making practice, so yeah, woohoo for me.

i used to review rpg maker games when i was staff at gamingw.net, im sure itll be a natural transition for me so expect something, but be advised its gonna be something completely different to what youre used to seeing.

Really? I just got RPG maker 2k on my PC but it's not working atm. I most likely will hit you up with some advise on how to use RPGM2k

And I would really try to make full reviews and DL a lot of songs to look at, but I has no internet at home

Knowing Stepmania terminology shouldn't a prerequisite for reviewing files. Everybody has their own way of writing, and as long as you can go into detail and the reader understands what you're talking about, that should be enough.

I personally enjoy writing detailed reviews from time to time. It certainly sounds like a lot of fun, and I would apply for this, but I just don't have the time to devote to downloading simfiles and writing about them as much as I used to. I have a feeling that even though it is only once a month, I would miss my turn often because I have something else I have to do.

Just to clarify some things, you don't need to use precise terminology or anything. As a FotW helper, you can just review things and refer to them as you are comfortable doing them.

Also, you don't need to download every file that comes out every week. Like I said, each FotW is proceeded by a discussion by all of the FotW Helpers and me, so everyone collaborates on picking the file while just one person is responsible for writing the actual review. As a FotW Helper, you just need to download a few files that look interesting to you each week, give suggestions if its not your week, and ask for suggestions if its your week and none of the files you've played seemed FotW-worthy.

If being a helper doesn't involve having to download every simfile, then I will take the opportunity into much stronger consideration (because that just takes up too much time). Once finals are over, I will most likely PM my reviews. The fact that nominations are discussed as a team sounds much more convenient.

I didn't want to publicly express interest in this (when I saw it a few days ago), since I've had experience with reviewing before and *ahem*, well, I wasn't exactly a crowd-pleaser. I'd still like to apply for this though. I think it would be an awesome way to get me out of my lazy tendencies (I almost never download new files), and keep some responsibility for myself when it gets to summer and such, a way to keep myself speaking civilised tongues. Plus it seems really fun and enjoyable. I suppose I'll just submit my reviews and see what happens.
