Favorite chill music

Postby EZA on Sun Jul 01, 2012 3:37 am

I'm just wondering what everyone listens to when they are in a chill mood. I like Sublime, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Ziggy Marley, practically anything that is ska/reggae.

R21, what are your favorite songs? Feel free to share some videos off youtoob.

There's a lot I could recommend in terms of chill music, but for the sake of not having an overwhelming first post, I'll just start out with a few:

Fennesz - Transit (drone ambient) (feat. David Sylvian on vocals; the rest of his work is instrumental)
Loscil - Endless Falls (ambient)
Robert Haig Coxon - The Light (new age)
Nils Petter Molvær - Baboon Moon (nu jazz)
Pat Metheny Group - Dream of the Return (jazz fusion ballad)

If you've heard the Xenogears OST and are familiar with the guest female vocalist Joanne Hogg, it may be worth noting that she's the lead singer of the Celtic Christian progressive rock band called Iona, whose work can be described as "chill" and "mood-lifting".
Iona - Beyond These Shores

Downtempo hip-hop and trip-hop is really good for chilling out.

Emancipator (Trip-hop)
Bowery Electric (Trip-hop)
Dirty Three (Post-Rock)
Blazo (Instrumental Hip-Hop)
Mono & World's End Girlfriend (Post-Rock, Modern Classical)

I could honestly post 90% of my music collection here. I almost exclusively listen to ambient, cinematic music which is great for chilling. The other 10% of my music is Metal and Dance/Electronic music.

Also Ricardo hit the nail on the head with Emancipator. His music is so boss. But my all time favourite album for just laying back and relaxing is the Louisiana Mourning EP by Benn Jordan.

Yes, definitely a great choice! Divenire is such a beautiful album.

Also, I don't know how this slipped my mind, but it's worth mentioning that as of a few weeks ago, Nina Kinert has recently announced that she contributed her vocals on the debut track Riviera for the newly emerging Swedish alternative synth-pop band "Shadow Shadow". I've been playing it on repeat all week.

I wouldn't exactly call Tera Melos "chill".
