TEEX wrote:I still have to check out Hiromi's new album. She played the newer track "Haze" as her encore when I saw her in Pittsburgh, and I thought it was beautiful. I'm glad to see she's being backed by her trio again; I loved hearing that funky bass in Another Mind (which is still my personal favorite of her's). Anyway, I'm gonna hold off and buy "Voice" before I hear anything else.

Lately, I've been getting into a lot of funk, soul and blues. One of my most recent discoveries was Tower of Power, which was a name that popped up on last.fm a few months ago. I checked out the album "Bump City" (1972) and loved every track. They incorporate some strong jazz elements, which are complemented by the vocals of R&B singer Rick Stevens and is backed by the remaining personnel.

Yeah, don't ask about the hand holding the chicken leg. I don't know. All I know is that it's a good album.

One of their most noteworthy:
Tower of Power - You're Still a Young Man

I know I had more stuff I wanted to talk about, so I'll be back in this thread eventually.

Wow, that seems awesome. Downloading.

Edit: Great song, terrible youtube comments. Check out Earth, Wind & Fire (greatest soul band) and Parliament-Funkadelic (greatest funk band).
Earth, Wind & Fire - Reasons (live 1982)
Parliament - Flash Light (youtube quality REALLY doesn't do it justice, some of the best production work ever went into these guys' records)
still gettin my dick suck

DOUBLE POST MTHAFUCKAAAAZZZZZ

Beyonce - 4
A few good tracks, one by Kanye and a couple by The-Dream. Most of it is throwaway but the good choons are foreal choons. The Major Lazor-sampling lead single is obviously abominable, but there aren't any other real missteps; the album's just pretty underwhelming.
Beyonce - Schoolin Life
Beyonce - Party ft Andre 3000

Lately, though, I can't tear myself from:

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

Yeah, that's right. Everyone who doesn't have the LP needs to get it immediately. This band is one that I instantly rejected 2 years ago for their 'pretentiousness,' but God DAMN that's some good music. IIINNNDDDIIIEEEEEPPPOOOPPP
Animal Collective - My Girls
Animal Collective - Bluish

I downloaded Metropolis Now's self-titled album recently and listened to it tonight. Damn it was really really good. Nice beats mixed with good lyrics with great flows had my head banging though out the entire album. They be representin' Canadian hip-hop.

Such a shame that they are very well known. This video only has a little over 100 views and they only have 11K plays on last.fm.

Back in May, a friend of mine on last.fm had recommended that I check out Morita Doji (森田童子), whose music is generally classified as Japanese psychedelic folk. More specifically, I was recommended the album "A Boy" (1977). After having listened through the first time, I was like "oh ok, not bad", although as time went on, my love for the album grew. It makes for an especially pleasant listening experience when it's late at night and you're in the right state of mind.

If I had to just generally describe the tracks, the violin, calm female vocals and acoustic guitar jump out as the most prominent instruments, while the occasional piano melodies are more subtle and blend into the background. The moods of the tracks can range anywhere from melancholic to surreal, most notably the song "You Are Trembling", in which the entire second half becomes almost fully ambient, with only small hints of piano to be heard. I would easily list it in my Top 20 album discoveries of this past year.

groove yeah! TRIVIUM:

In Waves is awesome.

Went to the Mayhem festival on the 9th; that was the day the new CD hit stores. Since Megadeth didn't show (groovin' pooholes) they had more time to play. Heard most of everything from In Waves and they ended with Throes. 8)

Disturbed was good too; too bad they're possibly going to disband indefinitely. :(

This is the greatest news I heard in a while.

Anyway, ANIME WEEABOO YEAH

I found this random album just recently from Comiket 80. It's called 弦と少女とグランドピアノ (which very roughly translates to "A girl and a grand piano and strings") and was released by Soundot Records. It features various artists. Overall, I thought it kinda pretty decent, but one song really shines on here and it's the first track. It's a beautiful piano piece that later takes an IDM-ish turn with strings accompaniment. Kind of a shame to start with the best song, since it makes the rest really meh in comparison. I took the liberty of uploading the song.

Hello and welcome to Psychotik's Post-Rock Minute. I'm Psychotik and I'll be your host for the post-rock.

Ugghgghghghgh even that made me cringe.

*shels - Plains of the Purple Buffalo
Image

This is *shels' sophomore album which was released last July. They are a post-rock band with sludge influence as well. "Taking its title from the novel and movie The Neverending Story, Plains of the Purple Buffalo is a monumental journey, clocking-in just shy of 80 minutes." It really is one of the more beautiful albums of the year for me.

That song reminds me of Twisted Metal 3. I guess I just compared it to Rob Zombie.

Sorry for the bump, but after completing a wonderful round of Final Fantasy IX, I went ahead and downloaded the Distant World albums, which are orchestra compositions of classic FF tunes. Checking them out now and so far enjoying what I'm hearing.
