This is a music discussion thread, not a drive-by music video thread.

Anyway, I downloaded Wisp's entire discography. I was surprised to see that he had so many albums. Haven't listened to anything yet, but I'll get started on that.

It's all good, I hinted that the album was coo'~
Some that have never heard of them will probs check it out and that's good enough.

Much more of an eye catcher to the typical person than a huge several paragraph rant.

Except no one here on r21freak is a typical person. I'd rather see paragraphs of something well thought out that "OMG guise dis is gud"

Hey, Psychotik. Once you go through the Wisp stuff, would you mind listing any albums you find to be noteworthy? The only song I heard was the one zim uploaded to DRAFT '10. While it was appealing, I haven't felt motivated to go following up with anymore songs.

I made a few new discoveries since the last time I posted, the first of which being David Sylvian. Back around Christmas, I posted a bunch of variations on Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" in another thread; one of them being the vocal version: "Forbidden Colours", sang by Sylvian. Anyway, with the iTunes credit I got during the holidays, I decided to purchase his album "Secrets of the Beehive". The vocals are deep, calming and have an melancholic quality about them. Lyrics are usually eiter romantic or themed around dark surreal imagery.

I youtube-linked tracks I found to be noteworthy.

The Boy With The Gun
Let The Happiness In
Forbidden Colours
(This version is different from the one in the MCML film soundtrack. The intro was rearranged, the main synth melody is changed, and the piano and percussion are more crisp.)

I read the discussion. When people recommend me (and others) music to check out, I appreciate a brief description of what I'm getting myself into before I go clicking the link to listen.

Okay, I listened through everything. I'd recommend every single album, but if I had select a few, I'd say About Things That Never Were, humpelndenBEATS, NRTHNDR, Building Dragons, and Honor Beats. NRTHNDR is too good.

Pretty much this. I'd also throw in "We Miss You". I found that to be a great album.

I just recently came across the artist Sokif. Looking at the number of views his songs on Youtube range, he apparently isn't well known, although if you enjoy stuff like The Flashbulb and Aphex Twin, it's possible you'll like this too.

Thanks, TEEX. I'm liking what I'm hearing; light, relaxing ambient stuff, good music to finish work/homework to. I'm reminded of Piana and Haruka Nakamura, or maybe I Am Robot And Proud's simpler stuff. Cool video, too. Nice find.

I've pretty much fallen in love with post-rock lately, and just wanted to share some of my favourite discoveries.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Holy crap their songs are long but they're damn good. God-tier is some peoples eyes.

Japancakes
Oldie but a goody. They add a very feel-good mellow feel to their songs.

God is an Astronaut
One of my favourites. I absolutely love the guitar and drums in their songs.

Slint
Another damn good one. They're a lot more simplistic. Also one of my favourites. The album where this song is from is older than me.

Of course there's 65daysofstatic but everyone should know them by now. I'll just leave this song here. It's too beautiful.

Hey Psychotik, thanks for posting those post-rock videos. The more I listen to Godspeed You Black Emperor, the more I am enjoying it. I just got finished listening to the song Moya on YT; let me just say it was a great way to start my day this morning. If you end up going to the 4/27 show that you mentioned on FB, have an awesome time.

Hiromi's new album "Voice" which was originally scheduled to be released in June ended up dropping on 3/16. I have intentions of buying it, although you can hear some of it on Youtube.

As for other jazz pianists, I would also check out Keith Jarrett. Like Hiromi, he's also an improvisational musician who likes to occasionally bust out some pretty complex chord progressions. He also has some greater calmer stuff as well. Unfortunately, I missed the chance to see him live at Carnegie Hall a few months ago. (Even Dave Brubeck whom I think is in his 90's had played a few shows in NY just recently.) Anyway, I would recommend Keith Jarrett's "Treasure Island" (the first album I heard) and "Death And The Flower", which consists of three really long tracks, yet somehow come off as being able to tell a story through the music themselves.

Here's a relatively long excerpt of the original 22:49 track:

Last on the subject whom I feel is worth mentioning is Steve Kuhn, whom I saw at the Birdland Jazz Club live back in September. He played with David Finck on bass, Billy Drummond on drums, and Dave Liebman on sax/clarinet, and they were collectively referred to as the Jazz Masters Quartet. Steve Kuhn was at one time part of the Miles Davis Quartet. Arguably one of his best albums is "Trance".

Hey TEEX, if you're getting into post-rock, then I really suggest A Troop of Echoes. It's post-rock with a jazzy feel.
