Maybe it's the point where people start becoming eager to pass harder stuff? It looks like the average ITG player can pass 14s nowadays so I guess people just want to at least be up to that level.

I passed 13s and decided "well hell, I might as well pass Holy Orders," and then I did. 14s are also kind of cool because suddenly you're not even in the difficulty range of Defaults.

I remember the first time I passed a 13 footer (Infernoplex) and I felt like I was on top of the world. After getting that first one, I wanted to find more and more 13s I could pass. After a few months of that, I started with easy 14s and eventually got a few (3y3s and Magical 8bit Tour were my firsts). As of now, I feel like I can comfortable pass any 13, but I still need more experience with 14s. That's not going to stop me from trying to get a 15 though. I just want to be able to play harder and harder difficulties, pushing myself as much as possible.

This is how my mentality has always been haha. I focused on stamina way more than FA and got up to doing 14s+ before I had good FA.

My theory behind the dip at 13 is that that seems to be where the separation between people who are determined to get better (the majority, since there are a lot of 14+) and the more casual players who don't focus as much on getting up to harder difficulties is. Generally, people who play often and are determined to get better will climb up to 14 pretty quickly, especially nowadays since there is such variety in charts out there to ease you into it.

12. I'm a scrub lol, but I'm working on it, have passed several 12s including Mute's LED M chart recently on a dedicab (VERY fun chart btw). Will be trying for first 13 tomorrow, Infernoplex looks promising.

Maybe the difficulty step-up between 11-12 and 12-13 are much steeper than the difference between 13-14?
