Nate hosting tournament at Menlo

Postby Legendary N8 on Mon Sep 07, 2009 6:59 pm

OK, I got two tournament types I want to run in the same day.

Date: TBD - (I'm aiming for December 5th).

Tournament 1: Judgment Day ($5 Entry Fee)

This tournament will follow a very simple format. The judge level on the machine will be set to "judgement". Levels and song selection will be "fixed". This means it will already be preset by me. For all intensive purposes, this will be a "last man standing" tournament, so there will be no limit to entrants.

Here is this basic format:

Round 1 - A level 4 song
Round 2 - A level 5 song
Round 3 - A level 6 song
[...]

This will continue until one person is left. This person will claim the pot.

I seriously do not see this mini-tournament lasting more than three hours.
-----

Tournament 2 - Old School

I haven't decided on whether or not the songs will be selected in advance or not, but I definitely will use conference format for this.

A few things to note:

1x
No bar*

*Bar use will be limited to "adjustment" only. This means grabbing it to readjust your footing only. This is only done with one hand: the "one second grab". If you hold it for more than one second, I'll just slap your hand really hard (maybe?). Use of both hands on the bar for any reason is prohibited and will result in forfeit. If you keep violating the one second rule (I'll count to three to be sure), you forfeit.

Options you may use during play:

Hallway
Distant
Incoming
Anything that changes the note itself (such as flat, robot, cel)
*if I am missing a mod that you would consider "allowable", let me know.

Comments?

I would love for Eric to help me out!

I doubt I'd be able to make it around early December since that's right before finals week. This sounds like a fun idea though. Old-school? Nice. I wonder how many people would be anxious to pick overly technical songs against each other like Euphoria with 1x no bar.

Yes - justice for judge.

I can postpone it if interest sticks.

I probably wouldn't do it just before Finals either.

Although, with Justice timing and all that other crap, it would probably be a good idea to talk to Pachara about that. Given we ever need to go to the Service Menu, he would be in charge of that due to his theme.

I think December 5th is the tentative date for DDR Nationals.

1x is cool for DDR, but ITG arrows make 1x look sloppy. Just sayin'
(btw, I'm not going to this lol)

I mean, I can pass 9s on .25x just fine and I can almost pass a 6 on .1x, but still, ITG and 1x just don't mix lol.

I was bending towards January, but I wasn't sure when the Nationals would be.

Not to mention it will give me time to gain some more feedback about the tournament ideas.

Btw, is nationals gonna be done anywhere closer than Ohio?

I'd say January would work.

As for the old-school tournament, maybe Pachara could bring back the DDR noteskins and possibly a DDR-Related theme. Maybe you could throw a Hazard tournament if Troopers comes back :P (Hazard mode = 1 thing below a decent = fail).

Also, it's justice, not judgement.

January would be perfect.
I wouldn't mind having DDR noteskins either, although I'll settle for whatever.

Would there be a discounted rate if people would enter both tournaments?

Ben - thanks for the correction. It will be on justice.

I think that having it in "DDR theme" would be a cool idea. If Pachara is up to it, then all the better.

Sal - I could do that, but it would take money away from the pot. But yeah, I could make it $12 to enter both.
