Unable to play-

Postby BladeX on Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:00 pm

Hey,

I plugged in my USB drive and went to my songs, some of the songs could not be played, the message says, "Unable to play. Bad Address."

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks.

This is a pretty common problem, and while I don't know for sure, I feel like it's more related to the machine than the card itself. Just to be safe, I would recommend removing songs from your card, formatting the drive, and putting them back on, as well as resetting the machine when this problem occurs. Someone with a greater knowledge of ITG machines can probably help you more (and tell me if I happen to be absolutely, completely incorrect).

Could it be the USB drive does not working anymore? I probably should of added that after that incident, the next play I plugged in my USB drive again and it didn't load my songs nor my profile.

Also, to test it out, the song should be able to be played at a ITG machine if it can be played on Stepmania, correct?

It's hard to say if the problem in that incident is the drive or your card. Some cards have trouble loading on an ITG machine for whatever strange reason, and some USB drives on ITG machines just don't work very well. As for making sure the songs themselves are playable, there's a bit more to it than just having songs that work on Stepmania. I would recommend you read this. Points 2 through 6 are relevant to your situation.

I see, I guess the only way to find out is to try it out.

No problem. Sorry I can't help more, and hopefully other people will be able to. ITG is a pretty weird game, so your best bet right now is to just hope it works. If you absolutely can't get anything to work, try getting a new USB drive. Smaller (and often older) ones tend to work better, but again, there's no hard and fast rule.

I used to get this problem a lot. Usually, it meant there was a corrupt file somewhere in my In The Groove 2 folder (usually in the screenshots folder for some reason). Reformatting your flash drive should temporarily fix the problem, but it will happen again (and randomly). I suggest getting a new flash drive (either that or backup your data before every arcade visit)

Look at everything in your ITG2 folder and see if anything takes up more space than it should (for instance, mine would have a 2GB corrupted screenshot, even though screenshots are less than 100KB) It was also a 1GB flash drive :/

Sometimes, if everyone else are getting the same problem on the same machine, reboot the machine. (all unused credits will be lost!)

If you go the "new card" route, I highly suggest some of the older PNY branded cards. I've never once seen an issue with those. They're 2 gigs, already fat32 format, and no U3 so they work on just about every ITG machine I've ever been on. As a reference this is the one that EVERYONE in the group I play with uses. Also speaking of, use your computer to make sure the card is in fat32 format. You can view this simply by (assuming you're using windows) right clicking it under My Computer and clicking Properties. It says the format there in a list of things. The path for viewing this is pretty similiar on Macs and should be easy to figure out if that's your case.
