Foreground Effect Idea

Postby Genoisawesome on Sat Jul 14, 2012 2:41 am

Well... i've been playing Theatrythm a LOT recently, and thought of something.

For battle themes, you use four rows, at least unless you preform a summon... So couldn't that be transferred to ITG in some way?

It would be an interactive foreground. Every time you hit an arrow with the proper timing, the character in that row would attack. At one point, it would go to summon mode, just to make reading the chart harder, at least for some people, since all the notes would be on the same line.

It's just a rough idea though, and I don't know how hard it would be to pull off, while making it look good.

Uhm, a video might be of some help here. Show an example of what you mean because the explanation didn't make all that much sense (at least to me)

That's just an example, however, instead of the yellow and red notes, you'd have up, down, left, and right arrows.

The green bars would still be for holds. And you could add jumps, due to it not being limited by the system.

OpenITG Beta2 or SM4 and up is the only thing that would let you accurately measure judgment (since I demonstrated it in my youtube video and gave it a small test run in my gay4gimmix chart), so in that sense it's perfectly doable. The problem with it though is the same as every other rhythm game adaptation, if it isn't scrolling vertically it becomes very difficult for the brain to actually tell you how to step, for examples of what I mean try my WhiteBlue Technika Clone, Under Arrest Osu! Clone or to a lesser extent my Want You Gone / Still Alive Portal Clones, it takes a fair amount of work to step on the correct arrow most of the time.

If you'd like I can attempt something dumb with a bunch of nintendo sprites, but I'd probably feature it in Gay4Gimmix 3.
It'll probably be slightly different to what you've envisioned though, I'd be more inclined to keep an arrow direction specific to each slot.
