I've attached a few mockups of a design we're working on right now.

As promised, I'm posting here to hear what you guys think. Which of the three do you like best and why?

So this is meant for keyboard play, right? In that case, I'd recommend targeting it at spread players, since the whole point of index is to simulate pad play, and if you write charts for index, you have to worry about spins and crossovers and stuff getting hands all tangled up. I was about to suggest using 6 keys instead of 4, for uniqueness's sake, but then I remembered that o2jam has been a thing for like a decade or whatever, so if there's any room left for innovation in the world of keyboard rhythm games, I don't know where it lies.

I kind of like number 3 the most. I'm not sure how I feel about 1 since it appears rather dark, and 2 almost looks incomplete, at least to me with that missing line that 3 completes.

But I think these are pretty stylish designs overall, so nicely done!

Thank you very much!

I see what you mean where 2 looks incomplete. Guess that's one down.

I actually don't know why the first one's darker but pretending they were all the same color, what would you say between 1 and 3?

Don’t worry, none of this is final. It’s more for a “make more things like this” decision.

We do happen to be in the planning phases for a keyboard pack; although, none of the charts we've created so far are explicitly for keyboard players.

Actually, we could do both indexed and spread! You're right on it; I'd forgotten about those differences.

6-key hmm. That's a great idea! If you had to make a choice between 4- and 6-key, which would you choose and why?

Well imagining 1 without the darkened area, it would look a little too similar to 2 so I'd still choose 3.
