I actually wouldn't mind if there was a Pulsen machine to play on, but we all know how that will end.

One of the other fun ways I play 4-panel games at home is with Rock Band drums. I actually bought two sets of them back when Mungyodance 3 was new for this very purpose.

I encourage you to try it out! It's quite interesting and really sounds neat provided you have the older drums. I may be a bit biased because I used to play percussion.

What's really killer is playing double with two sets. Your arms will be really flailing!

In all honesty, if a Pulsen machine allowed custom songs and noteskins, I'd actually play it.

What is wrong with the noteskins? This is not constructive.

I think I can speak for most some users here when I say I think we would just prefer a noteskin that resembles an arrow more.

That's why exactly why we have one in the works. It points in directions and everything!

When we get a good design down I'll make sure to post here to see what you guys think.

While not necessarily arrows, here's what we were working on these past few months noteskin-wise:

This is from the Pulsen: Souleye pack. The noteskins are from the game VVVVVV and PPPPPPowerup!. The music can be found in Souleye's newest album, Adventure.

I just talked with Cesar the other night, and we'll have something arrow-like for you soon. We've been bouncing around ideas a lot lately to get a good design.

Is there anything in particular you're looking for in an arrow? Maybe something you'd like to see?

I like the creative designs your going for for, despite the unusual shapes. I kinda like that smiley face noteskin, how the expression changes after every few beats. This game does have a few creative approaches, that's for sure.

Saturn2888 wrote:Is there anything in particular you're looking for in an arrow? Maybe something you'd like to see?

I'm personally not very picky about the actual arrow, just as long as it resembles an actual arrow, haha. The main preference I think though, would be to make the colors of each arrow uniform depending on what note it is (4th notes be red or blue, 8th notes be yellow or green, just as a rough example), instead of it cycling through the colors continuously like a rainbow. I would also suggest that the mine design stand out a little more from the arrows, this is just to be safe in case you have stepcharts with large amounts of minefields.

Other than those three points, it's entirely up to you guys!

Good news for you, we have two sets of beat colors. One is roughly based off of the original Block noteskin's colors, the other is one you're probably used to.

Alternate beat-color set
  • Cyan
  • Green
  • Magenta
  • Yellow
  • Orange
  • Purple
  • Violet
  • Teal
Standard beat-color set
  • Red
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Yellow
  • Purple
  • Teal
  • Pink
  • Brown
The VVVVVV noteskins use the Alternate colors is because Captain Viridian is Cyan and since those colors match better, we used it instead.

We also have different beat-types, and I'll list them here with their ITG/DDR counterparts since some people have been confused about them in prior posts of the thread.

Noteskin beat-types
  • Dynamic -> Vivid
  • Static -> Note
  • Stable -> Rock Band / Guitar Hero (column-colored)
  • Grey or Viridian -> Flat
Since you're not the only one in this thread that's said to add a beat-color noteskin, what do you think we could do to make this more apparent to people?

I can already name one chart with a lot of mines coming up in a later release so what about the mines doesn't stand out in your opinion?

Well I think the beat colors lists you have are perfect, so that looks good there.

As for the mines, it's probably just the similar design aspect. This is just a personal suggestion, but perhaps make them resemble something that stands out more, I just think the small crosses seems a bit bland.
