Started playing DDR when I was 19 when fall 2003 semester started, and an arcade machine right next to my university.

First downloaded a little program called "dance with intensity" early december, and then stepmania shortly afterwards.

Started making stepfiles with novice to hard difficulties in December 2003. My earliest and crappiest December 2003 stepfiles available here. I was also kind of annoyed at all these pad stepfile vs. keyboard stepfile war back then... (hello Arch0wl's payon theme and blur)

Started making stepfile with complete double difficulties as soon as early 2004 (where my Stomp Exceed). Without any way to play them at all. (When mute says all my stepfiles are year 2007 files, many of them are in fact year 2004 files!)

Played lots of doubles on a DDR 4th mix machine because it had joint premium... until it got replaced by ITG1 (no double premium) and ITG2 (thans for double premium later on!) whenever that arcade got the machines.

Got 1 cobalt flux a few years ago.

When ITG2 r21 patch was first released, that was my very first opportunity to play my own double charts

About a year or so before I finished undergrad, the arcade opposite to my university closed... :( no way to play doubles anymore

Got my second cobalt flux about 3 months ago, so finally I can play doubles again!. With different control boxes (left one via PS2-USB converter), and the new one supports USB directly, the old one has input lag and the right one doesn't, so throws sync off when playing doubles

I started playing EBA when I was 21, early 2007, I think. Beat it and the two Ouendan games.
A friend introduced me to DDR Supernova on the PS2 at the beginning of July 2007. By the end of the month I was passing a few 6s (such as FELM SE). Bought Max and Extreme 2 for my PS2 the next month, and a Cobalt Flux pair that arrived the first week of November.
I got into stepmania and ITG around December. 2008 was spent learning doubles. 2009 was more doubles. 2010 and 2011 were mainly sitting on my ass and using the bar on 10s and up.

Stepmania: 10 or 11, and I played a bit on my feet. Never got so much into it until years later when I learned how to have more than the 5 songs I was given. Started ITG when I was 16.

Back then I did learn how to import an mp3 and make a chart. It was The Man with the Golden Gun. I've lost it and it was awful since I didn't understand what BPM meant.

FFR: 14 (2007)
StepMania: probably 14 or 15 (2008)
ITG: 18 (2011)

I haven't been lucky enough to find any other rhythm game cabinets nearby.

Addendum for my own sake, so I can find this information later: the first day I played ITG is between August 20, 2011 (the day I discovered the ITG cabinet, according to twitter) and August 28 (the first day I tweeted about playing).

I first tried DDR around high school, when I was 17, but only played on home pads.

I'd say I really started playing ITG around 08' when I was a sophomore in college; Pump followed closely after.

Been playing it ever since, although I appreciate the social aspect of it more than the game itself now. (Charts are hella fun to make though.)

DDR: 7-8 (Still basic)
GH: 11-12 (I don't really enjoy it)
SM-ITG-PIU: 14< (SM my first dance games before the ITG in keyboard, ITG my favourite game at the moment in keyboard or pad and so many simfiles, still learn in theory for pad, PIU still learn in theory for pad and search for simfiles)

okay

Started playing when I was 15, had experience with Frequency on the PS2 much earlier though
"Stepmania Science" methods are just an overly simplified writing method that people use to objectify an artistic process, but it's also not a good idea to just abandon convention and spew arrows haphazardly across a chart.

I started playing ddr in '04 when I was 12. We had ddr extreme at our local arcade. A year later I got ultramix 3 for christmas when that came out. Started playing ffr probably about a year or 2 after that. Got into stepmania soon after. Played a little beatmania at the arcade, not iidx it was a way older one with 5keys and scratch I can't remember what it was called. Played o2jam in '08 i think and I still occasionally play o2mania but I never really got good at it. And now I play dance games when I get the chance at a mall that's about 30-40 minutes away from my house in Pottstown, PA that has OpenITG beta 2 on a ddr cabinet. The community around this area has taken a huge hit over the years. But there's still a few people I play with that I have been playing with since the beginning. So I'm thankful for that.

i think the first time i ever played any DDR or Stepmania game was when i was 9 or 10, and i was really bad on the softpad we had so i was glad to be able to plug in my ps2 controller and play it with the buttons

probably a year after that i played a bit of stepmania on my brother's laptop and i got ok at it, but eventually stopped again

around about a year ago i got back into it and began installing tons of song packs -- as of now, i've AA'd impulse from tachyon alpha on medium (10) with 1 good on pad, and my best keyboard rank for whazashmup is 95.73%
