IIDX is so hard!!

Postby Xynn on Sun Jul 19, 2009 6:56 pm

My friend got this for ps2 he other day, and in about an hour of playing I think I passed one 3, and the rest were 2s. Is there some trick to this game?? 7 buttons and a turn table is like retarded hard for me..lol But I've seen kids play 5s and 6s on their first day playing. Grr..

After about 30 total hours of play, I passed about 5 4s on BMUS. Couldn't seem to get any 5s at all.
I was playing semi one handed though. I couldn't get comfortable with both hands on the buttons, so I just used my left hand for the turn table.
It kinda got superceded by playing spread on SM. :/

Haha, I'm so used to spread on stepmania i actually wished I could have half the buttons on one side and half on the other side with the turn table in the middle.

Just keep playing. That's all I could say.

IIDX has an extremely steep learning curve. I've been playing for about a year now and I could only do 7s and certain 8s.

Yeah, BM is very hard to get into and even harder to be good at. Just be motivated and play more and more.

Are you using 2 hands for the 7 buttons? :/

and yeah, it took me a few days to get to 3s, a few months to get to 5s, and I can't pass anything above that on IIDX mode (though I can pass a 7 on BM mode)

I wish the blue buttons were on the bottom and the white one's were on top, I feel like I'd be more comfortable that way.

I have BMUS and I can pass 7s and 8s right now :P It was hella hard at first but if you really like the game you get good at it after time of willing to put the effort in :3.

pics or it didn't happen.

Yeah, I've seen zim play and it looks pretty tough. I can pass 5s tops. The funny thing is, I think playing pop'n music has actually helped me to improve my IIDX game. It hasn't prepared me for the scratch, but the button part of it is much easier than it used to be.

The notes in that section are neither 12ths at 180 bpm nor 16ths at 180 bpm, but they are a lot lot closer to 16ths at 180 bpm than 12ths.

I played IIDX a few years back and got up to 8s and 9s, and then just completely dropped off and lost interest. Then in the last two or so weeks before The Nexus closed I started playing again, on 4s and 5s, and worked my way back to 8s, picking up some AAs along the way. I'd call it one of the harder (hardest?) rhythm games, but it's so good that it's worth the learning curve. :D

Definitely has the best music out of any rhythm game (imo).

One thing I just can't get in this game is the timing. I find myself sometimes getting like 6 perfects, 20 greats, and 200 goods. It feels like everything is either offbeat or the timing windows are really ridiculous.

Practice playing by ear and not by sight. Soon you'll get a better feel for the timing windows.

Exactly. Because BM is keysounded, charts are not offsync like ddr/itg ones are. Play by ear and just get used to the timing. You are probably hitting either too early or too late, since you are doing it consistently. DW, you'll get it.
